Department Overview

The UCSF Kanbar Center for Simulation provides simulation-based training for all health professions education
programs for the University which includes 3,500 faculty, 2,100 health professions students, and 1,500 residents
and fellows. Simulation is defined as an educational modality with which the learner physically interacts to mimic an aspect of clinical care for the purpose of teaching or assessment. Activities at the center range from those that use actors (standardized patients), to activities with partial task trainers and/or mannequins. UCSF health professions schools continuously rank in the top five for research and for primary care training. The Center is a part of the Office of Medical Education which is responsible for ensuring the highest quality learning and teaching environment for our programs and the support and development of over 110 staff.

The Center supports UCSF's educational mission by creating opportunities for teaching, learning, and assessment
using simulation as an educational strategy. The center serves all five health professional schools at UCSF and
provides learning opportunities across the continuum of health professions education. In addition to activities at the main facility on the Parnassus campus, the Center supports simulation across satellite facilities and in-situ at
affiliated hospitals.
