SBS, an Enverus company, is seeking a Software Engineer to join our Distribution Tools team, reporting to Matthew Rickard, Director of Software Development.
The Distribution Tools team builds and maintains SBS's desktop design and engineering tools, focused on the electric and gas distribution market.
As the team's scope continues to grow, we're looking for early-career developers who are already comfortable using AI coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT) as part of how they write and review code day to day.
This is an ideal role for a motivated, detail-oriented developer eager to learn modern engineering practices - including how to use AI tools responsibly and effectively - under the mentorship of experienced engineers.
Performance Objectives
Feature Development
  • Implement new functionality, bug fixes, and enhancements within SBS's Distribution Tools platform (C#, .NET, cloud APIs).

  • Collaborate with senior developers to translate requirements and user stories into working software.

  • Use AI coding assistants to accelerate day-to-day development, with the judgment to review, test, and take ownership of anything AI-generated before it ships.

Quality & Testing
  • Write unit and integration tests to maintain reliability and regression safety.

  • Participate in peer reviews and follow SBS coding standards.

  • Support build and deployment automation through CI/CD pipelines.

Collaboration & Learning
  • Work closely with product management, QA, and other developers to deliver reliable, secure shared platform capabilities.

  • Participate in Scrum sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.

  • Seek feedback and actively grow technical skills, including how and when to rely on AI tools versus working through a problem manually.

Continuous Improvement
  • Help identify and reduce technical debt by refactoring and optimizing code.

  • Support process documentation and knowledge sharing within the Shared Services group.

Competitive Candidate Profile
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 0-3 years of professional or internship experience in software development.
  • Hands-on, practical experience using AI coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT) in real projects or coursework - with the judgment to critically review and validate AI-generated code rather than accept it uncritically.
  • Familiarity with modern development tools such as Visual Studio, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming principles.
  • Desire to work on software used by utilities and energy infrastructure organizations.
  • Interest in CAD, GIS, or EAM Systems.

This role is eligible for: Variable Compensation
Salary Range: $82,000 - $125,000
