As a Software Engineer, you'll develop AI-driven data pipelines, write reliable backend code, and analyze performance in financial systems. Responsibilities include prompt engineering, data processing, and collaborating in CI/CD processes.
About us
Today’s financial system is built to favor those with money. Grid’s mission is to level that playing field by building financial products that help users better manage their financial future. The Grid app lets users access cash, build credit, spend money, optimize their taxes, and lots, lots more.
Grid is a fast-growing team that’s deeply passionate about making a difference in the lives of millions. We’re solving huge problems and believe that every team member has a big role to play. Come join our growing team in San Francisco!
The Role
We're looking for a junior software engineer (0–3 years of experience) to join our backend team. You'll own the development of data pipelines that feed our AI-powered financial systems, and you'll write and maintain the prompt logic that drives our backend AI agent. You'll write code that enables reliable, accurate automated financial operations and keeps our data pipelines running smoothly.
This is a hands-on technical role where you'll blend solid software engineering fundamentals with a working understanding of large language model behavior. You'll build prompts and tools that deliver consistent, high-quality outputs for backend financial processing. We prefer candidates who can start immediately.
The team
We're focused on serving our users above all else all while building a robust business. To this end, Grid's team members experience high levels of autonomy and ownership, and as a company we value curiosity, learning and growth.
At Grid, you'll be surrounded by a team that is motivated, mission-driven and pragmatic.
The tech stack
Our backend tech stack is based on GCP, Go, protobufs, BigQuery and MySQL. We have built our platform from the ground up to optimize for clean data sources, and we have made numerous investments into data warehousing, streaming analytics infrastructure and offline data cleanliness. As a result, we think Grid is positioned for efficient and powerful data science.
What you'll do:
- Prompt Engineering: Design, version, and systematically test prompts that drive our backend AI agent's financial reasoning and decision-making — measuring accuracy, consistency, and reliability across diverse inputs
- Data Processing: Build and maintain production tools that process financial data at scale
- Backend Development: Write backend features end to end — data models, business logic, and API integrations that make our product work reliably for customers
- Data Analysis: Use SQL and our analytics infrastructure to evaluate prompt performance, scraper reliability, and system behavior
- Shipping to Production: Own your implementations end to end, participate in our CI/CD process, and respond to production incidents as needed
What we're looking for:
- Degree in Computer Science
- Hands-on experience with large language models (GPT, Claude, etc.)
- Strong technical writing and analytical skills with attention to precision and systematic testing methodologies
- Detail-oriented approach to documentation, performance measurement, and systematic experimentation in a fast-paced startup environment
- Ability to work out of our San Francisco office
What you'll gain
- Direct mentorship from experienced engineers and ML researchers with real-world experience building production AI systems
- Deep technical understanding of prompt engineering for backend financial automation and exposure to enterprise-scale AI infrastructure
- Experience with performance optimization, testing frameworks, and AI system reliability in a production fintech environment
- Competitive compensation
To keep things simple, at Grid we're looking for people that want to change the world for the better and have the boldness to tackle complex problems with creative solutions.
