Software Engineer, Full-Stack

XDOF | Full-Time | San Mateo, CA

At XDOF, we’re at an inflection point. Frontier labs are racing to build general-purpose robots, and high-quality training data is the bottleneck. We’re building the foundation behind the foundation models – the data collection systems, operational capability, exabyte-scale data warehouse, and software toolchain – to help our partners drive the field forward.

Full-stack engineers at XDOF build the software that our team and our partners interact with every day: from the backend services that orchestrate jobs against real hardware, through to the UI that customers use to manage datasets, launch evaluations, and monitor results.

What You’ll Do

Full-stack engineers ship products across the entire stack. Sample projects include:

  • building the customer-facing platform for partners to browse, search, and manage large-scale robotics datasets

  • designing and implementing APIs that power both internal tools and external-facing platform features

  • building interfaces for customers to configure, launch, and monitor workflows that run against real robotic hardware

  • contributing to our data collection application across the full stack

  • creating data visualization interfaces that help researchers and operators inspect collection quality at a glance

About You

Baseline skills:

  • bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a related field

  • strong proficiency in Python and at least one modern frontend framework (React, Vue, or similar)

  • experience building and shipping web applications with real users, from database to UI

  • comfort designing APIs and working across backend services, databases, and frontend code

You might be a good fit if you:

  • have experience building data-intensive applications or tools for technical users

  • have built product features that orchestrate or interact with physical hardware or compute infrastructure

  • have worked with data visualization libraries or built custom dashboards

  • have prior experience with AI, robotics, or scientific computing environments

  • care about craft in both backend architecture and frontend UX

  • are very comfortable working in 0→1 environments

  • are mission-driven and passionate about robotics: work at XDOF is fast-paced and constant. We hope you love what you’re going to be doing, because you’ll be doing a lot of it!

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
