About the Role

As an engineering intern on the Platform Team at Uber Freight, you develop and support
distributed micro-services that power the lifecycle of shipments on the platform. You will also
maintain Freight’s search infrastructure, making sure it scales as we ingest more data and handle
more users.

At your disposal will be the tools that helped Uber grow to be a worldwide company, as well as
new and upcoming tech from our Compute, Platform, Search, and Infra teams.

What the Candidate Will Do

  • Naturally curious. You're innovative and creative in your problem-solving and
you constantly search for ways to tweak and optimize processes.
  • Fast learner. We're looking for interns who thrive with learning new technologies and
don't believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. You should be able to adapt easily to meet the
needs of our substantial growth and constantly evolving business environment.
  • A great teammate. You believe that you can achieve more on a team -- that the whole is
greater than the sum of its parts. You rely on others' candid feedback for continuous
    improvement.

Basic Qualifications

  • Actively pursuing a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in Computer Science or a
    related technical subject area.
    • Expected graduation in Fall 2026 or Spring 2027.
  • Good experience with at least one programming language preferably in Java, Go, or
    Python.
  • Proven software engineering experience through previous internships, work experience,
    hackathons, coding challenges, and/or publications.
  • Ability to work at Frisco, Texas, or Chicago, IL locations
  • Ability to work full-time, 40 hours, between 6/1/2026 - 08/07/2026

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building Search infrastructures, Indexing pipelines
  • Experience with Search technologies (Lucene, ElasticSearch, Solr)
  • Knowledge of stream/batch processing engines (Apache Spark, Apache Flink)
  • Experience working with microservices
  • Experience with storage technologies (SQL, Hive)
