THE COMPANY

At Builder Prime, we’re revolutionizing the home improvement industry by doing more than just building software—we're giving hardworking contractors their time and freedom back. Our all-in-one business management solution is the essential platform for companies at their "level-up" moment, seamlessly integrating CRM, estimating, production management, payments, and reporting. By replacing disjointed tools with a unified data and automation foundation, we empower businesses to operate more efficiently, win more jobs, and achieve their growth goals. We look for collaborative and community-oriented team members who bring initiative and curiosity to the challenge of solving problems for our customers.

In 2023, Builder Prime raised their Series A financing from Blueprint Equity and additional investors. We recently announced our Series B, also financed by Blueprint Equity.

THE ROLE

This is a remote position open to candidates authorized to work in the US without visa sponsorship, who presently reside in the US. There is a strong preference for candidates located in the Pacific Northwest, particularly Oregon or Washington, who are able to meet periodically in person with our engineering team in Portland. Candidates outside the PNW will be considered if they are based in a state where Builder Prime already has employees: California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.

We are seeking a Software Engineer to join our Operational Excellence (OpEx) team. OpEx is a cross-functional team that blends DevOps practices, automation, and a culture of continuous improvement to deliver high-quality, secure software efficiently. As a member of our team, you will work across nearly every team at Builder Prime to build internal tools and workflows that improve experiences for both our internal stakeholders and our customers. This role spans CI/CD automation, tier 2 customer support, observability-driven incident resolution, and is increasingly focused on the development of AI-powered tooling. It has the potential to be customer-facing and is perfect for someone who thrives in a highly collaborative, engineering-focused environment.

We are an AI-first organization and are finding real success using AI both to build these internal tools, as well as using it in the solutions themselves, so curiosity and a desire to work with AI are a big plus. If you are passionate about engineering excellence, love automating away toil, and want to make a tangible impact across the entire organization, this role is for you.

THE DAY-TO-DAY
  • Leverage AI tools and build AI solutions to accelerate the development of internal automation and tooling

  • Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines to ensure fast, reliable, and secure software delivery

  • Automate repetitive engineering and operational workflows to eliminate manual overhead and reduce human error across teams

  • Build and maintain internal tooling and scripts that improve productivity for developers and internal stakeholders.

  • Monitor system health using New Relic and Sentry, investigate incidents, and implement lasting fixes.

  • Set up and refine alerting, dashboards, and logging to give teams proactive visibility into system behavior.

  • Act as a tier 2 escalation point for Customer Success, diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues

  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to surface recurring issues and drive systemic improvements.

THE MUST-HAVES
  • 4+ years of professional engineering experience

  • Experience with and passion for various AI tools, processes, and concepts. Experience using Claude Code and/or Codex.

  • Strong understanding and practical knowledge of version control tools, particularly GitHub, including branching, merging, pull requests, review processes, and resolving conflicts

  • In-depth knowledge of relational databases and expertise with PostgreSQL

  • Hands-on experience with observability tools such as New Relic, Sentry, Datadog, or similar platforms for monitoring, alerting, and incident response

  • Familiarity with our core tech stack: Java Spring Boot, Angular, PostgreSQL, and AWS

  • Experience developing tools and scripts, and seeking out process improvement opportunities through automation

  • A solid, hands-on understanding of CI/CD pipelines and the ability to build, maintain, and improve them

  • Experience providing superior communication and working with cross-functional teams

  • Passionate about technical documentation and tutorials, and have a deep understanding of what makes an excellent knowledge base

  • Any start-up experience or knowledge about the Construction or Home Improvement industry is a plus.

THE NICE-TO-HAVES
  • Previous experience in Software Engineering, Customer Success Engineering, or Solutions Engineering

  • Experience in a SaaS or B2B software company

  • Certifications in relevant cloud platforms or technologies

  • Background in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or similar operational roles that blend engineering with operations

  • Any start-up experience or knowledge about the Construction or Home Improvement industry is a plus.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
  • Drive measurable improvements in customer satisfaction and retention

  • Reduce time-to-resolution for customer technical issues

  • Increase customer product adoption and utilization

  • Contribute to product roadmap decisions based on customer insights

  • Build strong relationships with key customer stakeholders

  • Develop scalable processes that improve team efficiency
