What MatX is Building

MatX is building the world's best chips for training and serving large language models, spanning the entire stack — from silicon and rack design through compilers and kernels to ML models. Our systems deliver best-in-class latency, throughput per dollar, and throughput per watt.

We are seeking highly motivated and detail-oriented software engineers to join our chip simulation team. As an engineer on this team, you will design, develop, and test simulations of our custom hardware. Our team plays a key role in hardware-software co-design, enabling early development of the full software stack.

Join us to shape the future of AI hardware abstraction and optimization!

What You'll Do Here

  • Design and implement a Rust-based chip simulator, building a cycle-accurate model of our custom hardware
  • Collaborate with simulator customers: architecture, verification/validation, compiler, and runtime teams
  • Work closely with hardware architects, building models that shape the silicon design
  • Build tooling and infrastructure to aid in efficient correlation, debug, and testing
  • Use AI development tools to accelerate your work

Who You Are

  • Bachelor of Computer Science or an equivalent degree
  • Skilled in Rust, or strongly interested in ramping up
  • Outstanding software engineering skills, with a focus on maintainability and performance
  • Strong foundation in computer architecture fundamentals
  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills
  • Able to work from our Mountain View, CA office three days a week (Tuesday-Thursday) as part of this hybrid role

Bonus Points If You Have

  • Experience writing cycle-accurate simulators
  • Deep knowledge of ML accelerator architectures
  • Experience with benchmarking and optimizing Rust code
  • Familiarity with processor, memory, and networking architectures
  • An understanding of power, performance, and cost tradeoffs
