Job Title: CAD Design Engineer (SolidWorks) – Pilot Dataset Project

Role Overview

Seeking experienced CAD professionals to develop a structured dataset of high-quality SolidWorks parts across Automotive, Aerospace, and Healthcare domains. The role involves end-to-end part modeling, annotation, documentation, and reasoning capture aligned with strict engineering and quality standards.

This is a short-term pilot project (weekend delivery) with potential for extended collaboration based on performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build SolidWorks parts (SLDPRT) based on detailed engineering briefs and problem statements

  • Follow step-by-step build directions to ensure reproducibility and consistency

  • Create fully constrained sketches and clean feature trees (no suppressed/unused elements)

  • Record screen capture of the modeling process with clear voiceover, subtitles, or annotations

  • Develop and validate working macros to rebuild parts from scratch

  • Produce 2D drawings (.SLDDRW) aligned with engineering standards

  • Apply Model-Based Definition (MBD) with complete GD&T (datums, tolerances, dimensions)

  • Document engineering reasoning in structured JSON format for all annotation decisions

  • Ensure assemblies (where applicable) are properly mated and functional

Dataset Complexity distribution: Easy / Medium / Hard (as per specification)

Each part must include:

  • 3D model

  • Macro

  • Screen recording

  • 2D drawing

  • MBD annotations

  • Reasoning log

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience and strong proficiency in SolidWorks (part modeling, assemblies, drawings, MBD)

  • Deep understanding of GD&T and engineering design principles

  • Experience with parametric modeling and feature tree optimization

  • Ability to create fully constrained, production-grade CAD models

  • Familiarity with automation/macros in SolidWorks

  • Strong documentation and communication skills (for annotations and reasoning logs)

  • Prior experience in Automotive, Aerospace, or Healthcare design preferred

Deliverables Quality Expectations

  • Clean, reproducible models with no errors or missing constraints

  • Engineering-grade annotations reflecting real-world functional intent

  • Clear, structured, and traceable design reasoning

  • High-quality recordings demonstrating build methodology and thought process

Engagement Details

  • Project Type: Pilot / Freelance

  • Timeline: Weekend delivery

  • Collaboration: Individual contributors

Application Requirements

  • Confirmation of availability and interest

  • Number of parts that can be delivered within the timeline

  • One sample SolidWorks part (with documentation) demonstrating capability

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Detail-oriented CAD expert with strong engineering judgment

  • Able to balance speed, quality, and documentation rigor

  • Comfortable working with structured specifications and reproducible workflows
