Own production deployment solutions for robotic AI systems after customer purchase orders. Translate customer requirements into workflows and work-cell designs, conduct feasibility analysis, integrate robots with sensors, conveyors, PLCs, MES, and other plant systems, and lead FAT, commissioning, and SAT. Define requirements, author operating procedures, measure system performance, support customer-site deployment, and provide production feedback to product and engineering teams.

At Rhoda AI, we’re building the next generation of generalist intelligent robots. We own the full robotics stack from high-performance hardware and robot systems to the infrastructure and state-of-the-art foundation world models that control our robots. Our robots are designed to be generalists capable of operating in complex, real-world environments and handling long-tail edge cases, made possible by our cutting edge research and end-to-end system design. We've raised over $450M and are investing aggressively in model research, infrastructure, hardware development, and manufacturing scale-up to make generalist robotics a reality.

About the Application Engineering Team

Application Engineering is where Rhoda's AI meets the real world. We work directly with customers to understand their operational problems, determine where our platform can deliver value, and lead the application of Rhoda's AI model end to end — from model post-training and data collection, to robot tooling and work-cell design, to production deployments on the customer's floor. The team sits at the intersection of engineering, product, deployment operations, and business, with members in the US and Germany. Application Engineering is organized into three complementary roles — Application Engineers, Solution Engineers, and Technical Program Managers — who share ownership of every production deployment.

The Role

As a Solution Engineer, you own the systems-engineering work that turns a successful POC into a production deployment. Taking the lead once a customer issues a purchase order, you'll translate customer requirements into a production solution, design the workflow and work cell, and integrate Rhoda's robots and AI model with the customer's environment — sensors, conveyors, PLCs, and MES. You'll carry the solution through Factory Acceptance Testing, commissioning, and Site Acceptance Testing.

What You'll Do
  • Gather, define, and negotiate customer requirements for production, including throughput, uptime, safety, and acceptance criteria.

  • Conduct feasibility analysis (including simulation) and provide proposal review and feedback during the PO stage.

  • Design production workflows and work cells, including layout, safety, material flow, and operator interaction.

  • Lead system integration planning with the customer environment — sensors, conveyors, PLCs, MES, and other plant systems.

  • Integrate Rhoda's AI model with task-related tooling and partner with Application Engineers on task engineering and strategy.

  • Own the overall solution strategy and author workflow SOPs for production operations.

  • Define solution requirements, shaping both product and site readiness ahead of the deployment.

  • Measure and report system performance through FAT and SAT, and support on-site commissioning.

  • Feed production learnings back to product and engineering to shape the roadmap.

What You'll Bring
  • BS or MS in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Industrial, or Robotics Engineering, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience designing and deploying automation or robotic systems in manufacturing or logistics environments.

  • Hands-on experience with industrial controls and integration: PLCs, industrial networking and protocols (e.g., OPC UA, Profinet, EtherNet/IP), sensors, and conveyors.

  • Experience integrating with MES or other plant-level systems.

  • Strong understanding of work-cell design, machine safety standards, and risk assessment.

  • Track record of taking systems through FAT, commissioning, and SAT.

  • Ability to translate ambiguous customer needs into clear technical requirements and designs.

  • Willingness to travel to customer sites (domestic and international).

Nice to Have
  • Experience at a systems integrator or robotics OEM.

  • Experience with simulation tools for work cell design and throughput analysis.

  • Exposure to AI- or vision-based robotic systems.

  • Familiarity with both US and European safety and compliance requirements.

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
