About Numeral

Numeral is transforming how taxes get done. Digital businesses are currently bogged down by a painful web of regulations across 47 states and 70+ countries. We’re eliminating this burden so teams can focus on their core mission.

We’re the largest and fastest-growing AI-native tax solution. Started in 2023, Numeral has raised over $57M from Benchmark, Mayfield, Y-Combinator, and many others. We now serve over 3,000 paying customers and have more than tripled our revenue every year in our history.

About the role

We're looking for an experienced Solutions Engineer to be the technical backbone of our sales cycle. You'll own technical discovery, demos, scoping, and integration guidance — removing technical and data surprises before a deal closes so that onboarding is smooth and customers realize value fast.

You'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with Account Executives on our most complex and highest-value deals: mapping where a customer's data lives, how it flows into Numeral, and how stores, APIs, and data entities need to be configured so tax and nexus work correctly. You'll be equally comfortable in a technical discovery call with a developer and in a value conversation with a finance leader. As one of the founding members of the SE team, you'll also help build the playbooks, demo environments, and processes that let the function scale — and you'll have an outsized voice in shaping the product through the feedback you bring back from the field.

What you'll do
  • Own technical discovery and demos. Run discovery to understand each prospect's billing/payment/ERP stack, then deliver tailored, credible demos that map Numeral's value to their architecture and prove it works in their environment.

  • Architect the integration plan. Translate customer data architecture into a clear Numeral integration plan — system diagrams, data-flow mapping, effort estimates, and success criteria — across pre-built integrations, APIs, and manual workflows.

  • Own technical scoping and the handoff to onboarding. Build and quality-gate Technical Mutual Action Plans (TMAPs) and serve as the technical sign-off for complex deals (Stripe, custom API, NetSuite, and other non-Shopify tax engine implementations) before they're committed.

  • Win the technical evaluation. Handle technical objections live, drive RFPs and security reviews, and run light proofs-of-concept and pilots that move deals forward.

  • Be the voice of the customer. Gather technical requirements and friction points from the field and partner with Product and Engineering to influence the roadmap, prioritize integrations, and unblock deals.

  • Enable the broader GTM team. Deliver training to AEs and SDRs on nexus, integrations, and new product capabilities; run office hours; and reduce the need for Product/R&D to join customer calls.

  • Build scalable assets. Create and maintain demo environments, customer-facing documentation, integration guides, and repeatable SOPs that make the whole team more effective.

What you'll bring
  • 5+ years as a Solutions Engineer, Sales Engineer, Solutions Architect, or in a comparable customer-facing technical role, ideally selling into enterprise and mid-market.

  • Hands-on technical depth with API integrations and web technologies — REST APIs, webhooks, and data flows between systems. Programming experience in one or more languages (Python, JavaScript, Ruby, etc.) is a strong plus.

  • The ability to speak to both engineering and finance stakeholders — translating complex technical concepts for non-technical buyers and going deep with developers in the same deal.

  • Strong discovery and demo instincts — you're comfortable driving live technical conversations and tailoring them to the audience.

  • Exceptional documentation and organizational skills, and a love of building scalable processes from scratch.

  • Startup mindset: not scared of ambiguity, hungry for rapid growth, and self-sufficient enough to create a playbook rather than wait for one.

  • Customer obsession: you deeply care about the user experience and solving their problems.

  • A genuine love of learning — you can build deep expertise in new industries, products, and integrations quickly.

Even better
  • Sales/Solutions Engineering experience or familiarity in sales tax or accounting, as well as deep product empathy and proven ability to sell into the same buyer.

  • Familiarity with billing systems, ERPs, or payment services, such as NetSuite, Stripe, or QuickBooks. You understand the data layer Numeral sits on and can speak credibly to finance and engineering buyers at once.

  • Background in Numeral’s key sales verticals (E-Commerce, SaaS, Manufacturing, Wholesale/Distribution) allowing for deeper connections and understanding with our main customer segment

What we offer
  • Competitive salary and equity - you'll share directly in the company's success

  • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage

  • Wellness perks like Headspace and the Peloton One App

  • 401(k) to help you build long-term financial security

  • Lunch and snacks when you're in the office

  • Regular team offsites and company events as we grow

  • A culture built on ownership - your work matters and people will see it!
