About the team and the role:

eBay's Payments & Monetization Design team shapes how money moves through one of the world's largest marketplaces. We design the experiences behind eBay's co-branded credit card and rewards program, the evolution of eBay's digital wallet, and the fee and monetization structures that make it possible for millions of sellers to build a business and millions of buyers to find what they love. It's work that sits at the intersection of consumer trust, financial regulation, partner ecosystems, and real business leverage.

As a Sr. Staff Experience Designer for our Payment Platform, Tax, & Monetization team, you'll be a hands-on design lead for one of the most important product areas in the company. You'll define the direction for a multi-quarter initiative, make the work yourself and alongside a small team, and bring Product, Engineering, Finance, Risk, and Legal partners into alignment around a shared vision. As a senior craft leader, you’ll raise work quality, compose how teams handle sophisticated problems, and influence decisions with cross-functional partners and senior leaders. You’ll also help evolve our approaches, explore new technologies like AI, and develop methods that empower other designers and teams. This role reports to the Design Director for Payments & Monetization within eBay's Services Design organization, and partners closely with Product and Engineering leaders across Payments and Financial Services.

What you will accomplish:

  • Set the experience direction for undefined problem spaces across the customer journey, connecting customer needs, business priorities, and long-term product strategy. Build alignment across Product, Engineering, Business, and senior leadership through compelling storytelling, clear rationale, and healthy debate.

  • Create concepts, flows, prototypes, and polished experiences that set the quality bar for the team, and use them to drive decisions with Director-level partners across Product, Engineering, Finance, and Risk.

  • Lead end-to-end design for high-impact initiatives spanning multiple teams or domains, from finding opportunities and framing problems through delivery, iteration, and measurable outcomes.

  • Develop a scalable, future-focused perspective for the experience, anticipating cross-functional dependencies and influencing product strategy, priorities, and trade-offs.

  • Raise the craft and judgment of the designers around you through critique, mentorship, and by creating opportunities for others to lead. Model AI-assisted ways of working, from research synthesis through prototyping, and help the team adopt what works.

  • Build and evolve the frameworks, patterns, and tools the broader Payments design team uses, so the team ships faster and more consistently without you in every review.

What you will bring:

  • A maker attitude with over 12 years of experience including leading complex, multi-team initiatives from ambiguous customer problems through delivery and measurable impact. You can speak to how you set the vision and strategy, applied product thinking, and your expertise in interaction and visual design.

  • Hands-on experience turning ambiguous, interconnected problems into clear experience strategies and high-quality end-to-end solutions that can scale across products and journeys.

  • Proven track record shaping content within product experiences (e.g., information architecture, conversational design, or UX writing) to improve comprehension and customer outcomes.

  • A track record of steering product direction and decisions through customer insight, strong rationale, and clear storytelling. Skilled in using research, data, experimentation, and market insights to find opportunities, navigate business and technical trade-offs, and measure impact.

  • Ability to elevate the work of others through mentorship, critique, frameworks, standards, and collaborative leadership without relying on formal authority.

  • Expert proficiency with modern tools for building and prototyping, with a strong curiosity about applying emerging technologies—including AI— to advance quality, exploration, and team efficiency.
