We are seeking an entrepreneurial and driven Senior Staff Counsel to be a founding member of our new in house litigation office in Texas. This is a unique opportunity to build a practice from the ground up in alignment with Next’s innovative, tech-first approach to insurance. You will primarily represent our insureds in a wide range of civil litigation matters in Texas state courts, with a focus on general liability cases.

You will leverage your litigation experience and independent judgment to manage a caseload, develop legal strategies,  and ensure the highest standards of client representation, while embodying our core values of simplicity and exceptional service. 

 What You’ll Do: 

  • Founding the Office: collaborate with legal and claims to establish and operationalize the new Texas staff counsel office, including developing processes,  selecting and implementing technology , and aligning office objectives with the broader company strategy.
  • Independent Caseload Management: Handle all phases of litigation for assigned cases, from initial investigation to trial and post- trial activities. 
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities for processes automation, workflow enhancements and efficient digital case management consistent with Next’s digital-first approach.

What We Need:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active member in good standing of the State Bar of Texas, standing in additional jurisdictions preferred.
  • Minimum 5-9 years of proven trial attorney experience preferably within Insurance defense litigation or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a significant case load independently and effectively in a fast-paced high-volume environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Texas law and civil procedure, particularly as it relates to personal injury, general liability and commercial auto cases.
  • Exceptional legal research, writing, negotiation and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in legal case management software, e-discovery tools and remote collaboration technologies.
  • Strong business acumen and an “ownership mentality,” with the ability to capitalize on advancing technology and efficiency.

The range displayed on this job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including, without limitation, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. NEXT employees are eligible for our benefits package, consisting of our partially subsidized medical plan, fully subsidized vision/dental options, life insurance, disability insurance, 401(k), flexible paid time off, parental leave and more.

US annual base salary range for this full-time position:
$159,000$215,000 USD
