Job Description:

Job Title: Staff Engineer, Analog design

Lumentum is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Engineer, Analog Design to contribute to the development of high-performance analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits for optical communication products. This role involves designing, simulating, and validating complex analog blocks and subsystems, ensuring they meet stringent performance, power, and cost requirements.
Job Responsibilities**
* Design and develop advanced analog and mixed-signal circuits, including but not limited to ADCs, DACs, transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs), laser drivers, and various high-speed linear and non-linear circuits for optical modules.
* Perform detailed circuit simulations (e.g., SPICE, Spectre) to verify performance, robustness, and corner case behavior.
* Conduct layout supervision and parasitic extraction, working closely with layout engineers to ensure design integrity and manufacturability.
* Develop comprehensive test plans and participate in silicon validation, debug, and characterization in the lab.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams including digital designers, firmware engineers, system architects, and test engineers to define specifications, integrate designs, and troubleshoot issues.
* Analyze and resolve complex design problems, performance bottlenecks, and yield issues.
* Document design specifications, simulation results, test procedures, and characterization reports.
* Stay abreast of industry trends, new technologies, and design methodologies in analog and mixed-signal design.
* Mentor junior engineers and contribute to best practices within the design team.
Job Qualifications**
* Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with 8+ years of relevant experience, or a Ph.D. with 5+ years of relevant experience in analog/mixed-signal IC design.
* Proven track record of successfully designing, taping out, and bringing to production complex analog ICs in advanced CMOS processes.
* Strong expertise in the design of high-speed analog building blocks such as op-amps, bandgaps, LDOs, voltage references, drivers, and receivers.
* Proficiency with industry-standard EDA tools (e.g., Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre, Mentor Graphics Calibre, Synopsys Custom Compiler).
* Solid understanding of semiconductor device physics, analog layout techniques, and design for manufacturability (DFM).
* Experience with silicon characterization and debug using lab equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, parameter analyzers).
* Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a strong analytical mindset.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Experience in optical communication applications (e.g., coherent transceivers, pluggable optics) is highly desirable.

Pay Range:

P60-USA-1 :$108,800.00 - $155,400.00

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
