About Dexterity

Dexterity is the enterprise Physical AI company building intelligent robots for complex industrial work.

Dexterity's Mech systems combine the Foresight World Model, robotics, and a Physical AI platform to perform demanding logistics workflows - including trailer loading, trailer unloading, and airport baggage handling - at the speed, reliability, and safety levels required for high-volume operations. Dexterity's Foresight World Model powers real-time perception, planning, and execution across physical environments with the interpretability required for industrial deployment. Dexterity is headquartered in Redwood City, California.

Dexterity is backed by world-class investors such as Kleiner Perkins, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Obvious Ventures. We are a diverse and multidisciplinary team with a culture built on passion, trust, and dedication.

About the Role

As a Staff Infrastructure Engineer at Dexterity, you will design, build, and automate the infrastructure that powers Dexterity's development and production robotics systems. You'll own critical areas of our bare-metal and hybrid cloud infrastructure, including provisioning, compute, networking, Kubernetes, observability, security, and lifecycle management.

You'll work across Infrastructure, Software, Robotics, and other engineering teams to build secure, scalable, highly available systems while eliminating manual operational work through automation. This is a hands-on Staff-level role for an engineer who can set technical direction, solve complex infrastructure problems, and build systems that scale as Dexterity grows.

 What You'll Do

Infrastructure Architecture & Automation

  • Design and implement end-to-end automation for provisioning and lifecycle management of bare-metal HPC infrastructure.

  • Automate commissioning, OS installation, reprovisioning, and decommissioning using Dexterity's bare-metal provisioning systems.

  • Build and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code using technologies such as Terraform, Salt, Python, and Git-based workflows.

  • Automate configuration and deployment of Linux/Ubuntu compute nodes, Kubernetes clusters, networking, storage, monitoring, logging, and authentication services.

  • Develop APIs, scripts, controllers, and automation workflows that eliminate manual steps in server provisioning and configuration.

  • Integrate physical infrastructure provisioning with fleet management and other internal infrastructure services.

  • Automate cloud infrastructure provisioning for hybrid HPC and cloud-burst use cases.

Reliability, Operations & Security

  • Implement GitOps and CI/CD practices for infrastructure changes, including testing, review, rollout, and rollback.

  • Build automated hardware validation, health-checking, and diagnostic workflows.

  • Develop observability for provisioning status, failures, configuration drift, capacity, and overall infrastructure health.

  • Design and maintain secure, scalable, reliable, and highly available compute and network systems that support business objectives and service-level requirements.

  • Help establish and improve infrastructure security, reliability, compliance, and operational practices.

Technical Leadership

  • Help define the long-term architecture and technical direction for Dexterity's compute and infrastructure platforms.

  • Lead complex infrastructure initiatives from architecture and design through production deployment.

  • Establish engineering standards and best practices for infrastructure automation, reliability, security, and operational excellence.

  • Partner cross-functionally to research and design the next generation of compute and acceleration infrastructure for Dexterity.

  • Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar through design reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 10+ years of experience designing, building, and operating production infrastructure or systems at scale, with demonstrated technical leadership and ownership.

  • Strong Linux/Ubuntu systems administration experience.

  • Strong programming skills in Python with solid Bash/shell scripting knowledge.

  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform or equivalent technologies.

  • Hands-on experience with bare-metal infrastructure provisioning and lifecycle management.

  • Working knowledge of Kubernetes deployment, operations, and lifecycle management.

  • Experience with cloud infrastructure platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, including API-driven provisioning.

  • Strong networking fundamentals, including VLANs, DHCP, DNS, routing, bonding, and related networking concepts.

  • Experience with CI/CD and Git-driven infrastructure/configuration-management practices.

  • Experience developing or integrating systems using REST APIs and automation workflows.

  • Experience with monitoring, logging, and observability platforms.

  • Strong understanding of secure, idempotent, and reproducible infrastructure automation, with the ability to rebuild systems from code rather than relying on manual configuration.

The original request requires 10+ years of systems engineering at scale along with strong systems/network architecture and information-security knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with bare-metal provisioning technologies such as PXE boot, DHCP, TFTP, and cloud-init.

  • Familiarity with server-management interfaces and protocols such as IPMI, Redfish, iDRAC, or iLO.

  • Experience with HPC, GPU, accelerated compute, or other large-scale compute environments.

  • Experience with Salt or similar configuration-management technologies.

  • Experience with observability platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, and centralized logging systems.

  • Familiarity with ISO 27001, SOC 2, or similar security and compliance frameworks.

  • Experience supporting infrastructure deployed across production or customer environments.

  • Experience building hybrid cloud or cloud-burst infrastructure.

These preferred skills preserve the more specialized technologies identified in the original request without requiring candidates to have worked with Dexterity's exact toolset.

Compensation

The annual base salary range for this position is 200,000–250,000 USD.

Dexterity's total rewards may also include equity and benefits. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, scope, qualifications, market factors, and internal equity.
