Director, Product Engineering

Role Summary

At ChargePoint, we are building the future of electric mobility. As a Staff Hardware Engineer, you will serve as a key technical leader shaping the architecture and system-wide design of our next-generation EV charging hardware. You will tackle our most complex electrical engineering challenges, influencing hardware roadmaps and driving innovations that scale across North America and Europe.

What You Will Be Doing

You will own the system-level electrical architecture and lead the design of advanced PCBA solutions across our product portfolio. Acting as a domain expert, you will set technical direction, evaluate complex tradeoffs, and guide systems from conceptual block diagrams through to volume manufacturing. In your first 6–12 months, you will establish key architectural patterns, partner with cross-functional leadership (software, mechanical, thermal), and mentor engineering teams to elevate our hardware reliability and feature integration.

What You Will Bring to ChargePoint
  • Architect and own the system-level electrical design and Printed Circuit Board (PCB) strategies for next-generation charging platforms.
  • Lead the development of complex board-level architectures, defining block diagrams, sub-components, and circuit-level implementations.
  • Drive technical direction for the integration of embedded processors, high-speed interfaces, power electronics, analog sensing, and motor control.
  • Partner with cross-functional leadership across software, mechanical, and thermal domains to define system boundaries and seamless integration strategies.
  • Optimize global hardware designs for extreme reliability, cost-efficiency at scale, and advanced feature capabilities.
  • Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of critical systems, from discrete circuit conceptualization to volume manufacturing and global deployment.
  • Establish rigorous testing, validation, and documentation standards to ensure robust performance and margin-to-limits across the engineering org.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level hardware engineers, elevating the overall technical bar and design practices of the team.
  • Evaluate and select emerging hardware technologies, tools, and components to keep ChargePoint at the forefront of the EV industry.
  • Resolve the most complex system-level hardware escalations and field deployment challenges.
Requirements
  • 8-12 years of experience engineering and architecting complex electronic products successfully placed into high-volume production.
  • Expert-level proficiency with advanced CAD, schematic, simulation, and PCB layout tools.
  • Deep domain expertise in embedded systems, high-speed interfaces, power management, and analog control circuits.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional technical initiatives and drive consensus across hardware, software, and mechanical teams.
  • Strong track record of defining system-level architectures and successfully transitioning them to manufacturing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
