Position Overview:

Accountable for the assessment, coordination, delivery and evaluation of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care in an acute patient setting. Delivers holistic and individualized care to all patients in an assigned area. Develops, implements, and coordinates a plan of care that incorporates psychological, sociocultural, spiritual, economic, and life-style factors. Fosters and maintains collaborative relationships between patients, their family/support group, physicians, and other healthcare providers through timely and effective communications. Adheres to hospital policies, industry standards, best practices, and applicable laws and regulations to promote an optimal patient experience.

Job Description:

EDUCATION

  • Graduation from accredited School of Nursing

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE

  • RN-Registered Nurse of California

  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider

  • ACLS-Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • 2 years' experience in acute clinical care and preferably working in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and competence in nursing theories, clinical concepts, and evidence-based practices, including medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.

  • Strong understanding of the healthcare environment, including safety protocols, infection prevention, patient privacy (HIPAA), and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Advanced critical thinking and clinical judgment skills, with the ability to rapidly assess, prioritize, escalate, and intervene in complex, high-acuity patient situations.

  • Proficiency in managing critically ill patients requiring advanced monitoring and therapeutic interventions, including hemodynamic monitoring, vasoactive infusions, ventilator management, and life-sustaining technologies.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex or sensitive information to interdisciplinary team members, patients, and families, including non-medical audiences.

  • Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands, manage multiple high-risk patients, and meet time-sensitive clinical and operational expectations.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, maintaining composure and effectiveness in fast-paced, high-stress environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to engage and support patients, families, and team members in emotionally and clinically challenging situations using professional, respectful, and psychologically safe communication.

  • Proficiency in using critical thinking and established clinical protocols to identify, analyze, and resolve routine and complex patient care issues.

  • Basic to intermediate computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook) and electronic health record (EHR) systems.

  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and safeguarding protected health information (PHI) at all times.

  • Ability to build and sustain collaborative working relationships with interdisciplinary teams to achieve patient care and organizational goals.

  • Knowledge of and participation in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and high-reliability practices.

  • Familiarity with rapid response systems, escalation protocols, and early recognition of clinical deterioration.

  • Ability to prioritize assignments and function effectively within established policies, procedures, and evidence-based practices to achieve desired outcomes and meet operational deadlines.

Pay Range is $83.66 to $113.22 / hour

The compensation range may vary based on the geographic location where the position is filled. Total compensation considers multiple factors, including, but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, departmental equity, training, and organizational needs. Base pay is only one component of Sutter Health’s comprehensive total rewards program. Eligible positions also include a comprehensive benefits package.
