Mysten Labs believes that decentralized and open protocols are the bedrock of the internet of value. This is why at Mysten Labs, we are creating foundational infrastructure to accelerate the adoption of decentralized protocols based on blockchain technologies.

Mysten Labs is looking for a Staff Product Designer to set the experience strategy for the DeepBook financial stack and the first-party products built around it, spanning spot trading, margin, prediction markets, liquidity, and the workflows that connect users and builders to onchain finance on Sui.

This role requires strong product judgment, exceptional design craft, people leadership, and real fluency in financial markets and DeFi. You will work with product and engineering from strategy through launch, build a design team that can cover a growing product surface, and stay close enough to the work to lead critical product flows yourself.

The right person knows how to make complex financial systems clear without removing the information users need to assess risk. You should be comfortable designing for retail and professional users, working through technical and regulatory constraints, and using research and product data to improve adoption, execution quality, retention, and trust.

What You Will Do

  • Set the design vision, principles, and priorities in partnership with product, engineering, and business leadership.

  • Own the end-to-end experience across DeepBook spot, margin, prediction products, liquidity workflows, and related first-party applications.

  • Lead the design of core journeys including onboarding, funding, market discovery, order entry, transaction review and signing, portfolio and position management, collateral, liquidation risk, settlement, and recovery from failed states.

  • Design for distinct audiences such as retail traders, experienced DeFi users, market makers, liquidity providers, institutions, and developers without creating a fragmented product experience.

  • Remain hands-on in the highest-priority work by framing problems, developing concepts, prototyping, testing, and reviewing implementation quality.

  • Build a scalable design system and shared interaction patterns for dense financial data, charts, tables, order entry, account states, alerts, and risk communication.

  • Establish a practical research program using interviews, usability studies, product analytics, support feedback, and market observation.

  • Partner with engineering to understand protocol behavior, transaction states, latency, data dependencies, security boundaries, and platform constraints.

  • Work with legal, security, marketing, business development, and ecosystem teams to launch products responsibly and communicate financial concepts accurately.

  • Define design and product quality measures, then connect the team's work to activation, conversion, trading success, retention, support burden, and user trust.

What You Will Have

  • 10 or more years of product design experience, including meaningful experience leading, hiring, and developing designers in a fast-moving product organization.

  • A portfolio that shows both exceptional individual craft and leadership impact across complex, data-dense products.

  • Experience designing trading, investing, fintech, payments, crypto, marketplace, or other high-stakes products where users make consequential decisions.

  • Fluency in DeFi and direct experience using onchain products. You can discuss swaps, order books, liquidity, routing, slippage, collateral, leverage, liquidation, settlement, smart-contract risk, and transaction signing.

  • Strong product judgment and a record of shaping strategy, prioritization, and product decisions with product and engineering partners.

  • Skill in interaction design, information architecture, visual design, prototyping, research, and systems thinking.

  • Experience building design systems and operating practices that improve consistency and delivery across multiple products.

  • Comfort working through ambiguity and making progress while product, technical, market, and legal inputs continue to change.

Nice to Have

  • Experience leading design for an exchange, order book, derivatives or margin product, prediction market, wallet, aggregator, or institutional trading platform.

  • Experience with both retail and professional trading experiences, including charts, market data, portfolio analytics, and execution workflows.

  • Familiarity with Sui, Move, programmable transaction blocks, DeepBook, Slush, or object-based blockchain architectures.

  • Experience designing products in legally complex or regulated financial categories.

  • Prior experience as a founder, design executive, principal designer, trader, DeFi power user, or ecosystem operator.

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check, which may include verification of employment history, education credentials, criminal history, and other relevant information.
