Description
At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We're turning today's impossible into tomorrow's standard - from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.
Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.
The Role
The Staff Product Manager for Vehicle Observability owns the product strategy for GM's in-vehicle observability capabilities across logs, metrics, traces, and analytics. This role defines the roadmap, success measures, and adoption strategy for how GM captures, curates, and uses vehicle data to improve engineering insight, product quality, and customer outcomes.
The successful candidate is expected to operate as a recognized expert, work with broad independence, lead large cross-functional initiatives, own KPIs tied to strategic outcomes, and influence decisions across organizational boundaries without formal people leadership authority.
What You'll Do
  • Define and lead the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for Vehicle Observability across vehicle compute platforms and telemetry domains.
  • Align product direction across engineering, platform, diagnostics, service, analytics, and product teams to ensure observability capabilities support both technical and business outcomes.
  • Own top-level product KPIs, SLOs, and adoption metrics, and drive measurable progress against them.
  • Lead prioritization and execution for platform improvements such as better signal quality, reduced noisy logging, stronger metrics and traces, and more scalable instrumentation patterns.
  • Drive product decisions across platform tradeoffs including usability, cost efficiency, and long-term architectural direction, including the current mixed-environment strategy across Grafana Cloud, DataDog, and Heap.
  • Ensure observability data is translated into actionable insight for engineering while maintaining clear separation between deep engineering telemetry and curated service-facing outputs.
  • Communicate strategy, roadmap, tradeoffs, and business impact clearly to senior leadership and partner teams, using influence and strong judgment to build alignment across complex stakeholders.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Data Analytics, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of product management experience or relevant industry experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Proven ability to drive alignment and build consensus with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Can-do attitude to ensure we find a way to move forward despite challenges and ambiguity

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)
  • Experience with connected vehicles, telematics, or IoT platforms
  • Strong technical fluency in observability concepts such as logs, metrics, traces, alerting, dashboards, and telemetry pipelines.
  • Experience launching products in global markets
  • Understanding of data privacy, governance, or regulatory frameworks related to vehicle data
