The Staff Scientist conducts bench scientific experimentation that advances the basic science of nucleic acids and nucleic acid biochemistry and leads with development and characterization of new IDT genomics products. This position is responsible for designing and conducting experiments, analyzing and interpreting results, followed by communicating those results to both internal and external groups.

This position reports to the Principal Scientist R&D and is part of the Genomic Analysis team located in Sunnyvale, CA and will be an on-site role.  

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop new products using a combination of wet-lab and dry-lab skillsets
  • Support on market Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) products as a subject matter expert
  • Present experimental demonstrations of products at scientific conferences
  • Work with cross-functional teams from new transformative technology development and product management/marketing

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • M.Sc. in a life sciences field or related discipline and 8+ years’ experience with NGS product development, or Ph.D. with 5+ years NGS product development experience
  • Applying extensive scientific knowledge with broad laboratory skills to execute complex bench experiments using variety of molecular biology, cell biology, biochemical and general laboratory techniques as directed.
  • Extensive knowledge on NGS library preparation chemistry for various NGS applications, such as RNASeq, Methylation and target enrichment
  • Leading complex projects that may require a multi-member team.
  • Providing, on a routine basis, scientific support for other IDT departments; assists customer service/technical support with direct customer interaction and helping manage or leading external collaborative research projects as directed.

Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:

  • Ability to occasionally lift, move or carry equipment up to 10lb
  • Ability to frequently work in a laboratory environment for extended periods
  • Ability to travel to other IDT sites or scientific conferences (< %5)

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Python programming language and basic bioinformatic tools
  • Ability to operate automated liquid handlers and to do simple workflow modification on the system with assistance from the vendors.

The annual salary range for this role is $140,000-$160,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
