The Role
Our core mission is to bring Bitcoin to people around the world, unlocking new use cases and products to accelerate a world built on better money. The team is composed of engineers that specialize in backend, security, and blockchain engineering.
As an engineer on the Bitcoin Platform Trading team, you will be designing, building, and operating at scale systems that support millions of CashApp users and Square Sellers Buying and Selling more than US$2bn every quarter. You will be instrumental in shaping the platform's capabilities to manage BTC liquidity, ensuring Block products can support customer needs with unparalleled efficiency and simplicity.

You Will

• Deliver high-impact technical solutions and lead resolution of complex, ambiguous problems while shaping architecture and driving technical innovation.
• Shape strategy by defining vision and long-term technical roadmaps.
• Partner with senior stakeholders to connect engineering decisions to strategy.
• Build trusted relationships across functions and domains by fostering clarity and shared context, and guiding decisions across diverse perspectives.
• Drive stewardship of technical excellence and developer experience by setting and reinforcing technical standards by modelling behavior and guiding others through feedback and support.
• Work in a highly collaborative environment that offers flexibility and autonomy so that you can perform to the best of your abilities

• Be on-call for the services you and your team build, driving visibility into systems and business operations through observability tools like Datadog

You Have

• Demonstrable technical expertise in distributed system architecture and/or the digital asset domain with organizational influence and impact
• A history of contributing and driving all parts of the SLDC
• Experience building backend systems at scale, utilising modern eventing, database, and infrastructure tooling
• A pragmatic approach with a focus on delivery and business outcomes.
• A passion to learn more about and contribute to the dynamic and revolutionary world of Bitcoin and other digital assets
• A history of leading by example and mentoring as you level up the skills of those around you.

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
