The Standards & Practices team is responsible for ensuring that all content on the Crunchyroll platform adheres to our internal standards and complies with any legal/regulatory requirements in the countries where we operate. Our goal is to provide our audiences with content ratings and advisories to help them make informed viewing choices. 

The team embodies Crunchyroll’s collaborative spirit and operates at the intersection of compliance, content operations, and audience trust, playing a critical role in enabling scalable global content distribution while mitigating regulatory and brand risk.

Responsibilities:
  • Screen and take detailed content notes on new simulcast and library titles and digital manga
  • Analyze content to determine the appropriate rating and content descriptors in multiple regions
  • Maintain internal and external ratings databases
  • Collaborate with other S&P team members to harmonize rating decisions
  • Identify and escalate potential issues related to ratings and advisories to key stakeholders
  • Perform series and marketplace research
  • Assist department management with staying on top of shifting global attitudes around content. 
About You:
  • 2+ years experience in broadcast/streaming/gaming standards and practices and/or content review
  • Experience with content ratings systems and regulatory bodies
  • Possess strong critical thinking and analytical skills 
  • Familiarity with global cultural, ethnic, geopolitical and religious sensitivities 
  • Proven ability to manage a high volume of projects with competing deadlines
  • Excellent written communication skills, especially in conveying visual information clearly and concisely 
  • Familiarity with anime and manga highly preferred
  • Ability to analyze and discuss sensitive, potentially offensive material dispassionately and clinically
  • Comfortable with databases (eg Airtable) and structuring large amounts of metadata
  • Excellent trouble-shooting and follow-up skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Fluency in English required, proficiency in other languages (particularly Japanese and/or Spanish) a plus
  • Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate international colleagues a plus

This role requires screening and discussing content that may be sensitive or offensive to certain audiences.
