The Strategic Sales Engineer is an advanced individual contributor who operates as a trusted advisor on complex, high-impact sales opportunities within the financial services sector. This role applies deep technical, industry, and consultative expertise to shape solution strategy, influence executive stakeholders, and guide cross-functional teams through sophisticated solution design and validation. Working with significant autonomy, the Strategic Sales Engineer determines methods and approaches for novel client scenarios, adapts existing frameworks, and drives resolution of complex technical and business challenges. In addition to delivering technical wins, this role strengthens sales engineering practices and contributes to the evolution of tools, messaging, and solution standards across the organization.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

● Lead technical strategy for complex, enterprise-level opportunities by defining solution architecture, integration approach, and value narrative aligned to client business transformation goals. 

● Partner with Account Executives to shape deal strategy, qualification, and competitive positioning for high-visibility pursuits. 

● Design and deliver executive-level presentations, workshops, and tailored demonstrations that connect technical capabilities to strategic outcomes and measurable ROI. 

● Evaluate complex integration and security requirements by collaborating with client IT, risk, and compliance stakeholders to develop viable technical solutions. 

● Exercise independent judgment in adapting solution frameworks, demo environments, and proof-of-concept strategies for non-standard client scenarios. 

● Serve as a subject matter expert in a designated product domain, banking workflow, or technical capability and provide guidance to peers on complex use cases. 

● Identify gaps in sales engineering processes, tools, or documentation and recommend enhancements to improve scalability and effectiveness. 

● Influence product direction by synthesizing field feedback and communicating market requirements to Product and Product Marketing teams. 

● Create reusable assets, demo enhancements, and value frameworks that elevate team storytelling and technical positioning. 

● Navigate competitive technical evaluations by proactively addressing objections, differentiation points, and risk concerns. 

● Establish credibility with executive and senior technical stakeholders by articulating industry trends, regulatory considerations, and digital transformation strategies. 

● Guide resolution of escalated technical questions or deal blockers by aligning internal experts and driving clear action plans. 

● Mentor other Sales Engineers through shadowing, coaching, and structured feedback to strengthen overall team capability. 

Recommended Experience & Education 

Minimum Years of Experience 

5+ years of experience in enterprise pre-sales or sales engineering within SaaS or financial technology environments, including demonstrated success leading complex, multi-stakeholder sales engagements. 

Education Level

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Finance, Computer Science, or related field. 

Required 

● Advanced expertise in enterprise SaaS solution design and consultative pre-sales methodologies

● Deep understanding of banking operations, digital banking, account opening, lending, or core system integrations 

● Ability to lead executive-level workshops and influence C-suite and senior technical stakeholders

● Strong knowledge of API integrations, middleware, SSO, and security review processes

● Proven experience supporting complex RFPs and technical due diligence responses

● Strategic thinking with ability to align technical solutions to long-term business value

● Ability to operate independently and determine methods for new or ambiguous assignments

● Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder alignment skills 

● Travel may be required up to 50% depending on business needs 

Preferred 

● Experience serving as a product or domain subject matter expert 

● Background contributing to sales enablement content or demo standardization ● Experience influencing product roadmap through structured field feedback

● Familiarity with regulated financial institution compliance requirements 

● Experience mentoring or onboarding junior pre-sales team members

The salary range for this position is: $140,000 - $175,000 + CommissionCool Things to Know
