About the Team

The Launch Programs team is responsible for driving cross-functional planning, readiness, and execution for OpenAI’s most visible and strategic product moments. We partner closely with product teams to understand their goals, requirements, and timelines—then help translate those into clear, actionable plans across marketing, comms, events, and other functions. Our team acts as the connective tissue between builders and storytellers, ensuring that launches are predictable, aligned, and impactful.

About the Role

As a Launch Program Manager, you’ll play a central role in turning product ambitions into coordinated company-wide launch moments. You’ll work hand in hand with product teams to deeply understand their roadmaps and readiness needs, then drive alignment across marketing, comms, events, and other partners to ensure smooth, high-quality execution.

We’re looking for people who:

  • Are exceptional at building alignment across diverse functions and stakeholders

  • Can translate product requirements and timelines into structured, coordinated launch plans

  • Are clear communicators who can operate effectively at both tactical and strategic levels

  • Thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and enjoy building structure where it doesn’t yet exist

  • Are skilled at navigating complex product organizations and creating clarity across multiple teams

This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

In this role, you will:

  • Partner with product teams to understand requirements, roadmaps, and readiness, then translate those into clear launch plans and timelines

  • Drive cross-functional planning and execution across marketing, comms, events, and operations to ensure cohesive, high-quality launches

  • Serve as the central communications hub, driving alignment through clear updates, status reviews, and structured working rhythms

  • Anticipate and proactively address launch risks, surfacing tradeoffs to leadership early

  • Build and evolve launch frameworks, operating rhythms, and processes to scale the company’s ability to execute complex launches predictably

  • Represent the launch program function in senior stakeholder forums, helping shape launch strategy and cross-org coordination

You might thrive in this role if you:

  • Have led complex, high-impact product launches involving multiple functions and senior stakeholders

  • Are highly skilled at working with product and engineering teams to understand and translate nuanced requirements into actionable plans

  • Have a strong program management and operational skill set—able to set clear timelines, track dependencies, and drive accountability

  • Communicate with clarity and confidence at all levels, including executives

  • Build trust quickly and can rally diverse stakeholders around a shared vision

  • Are calm under pressure, solutions-oriented, and thrive in fast-moving, high-stakes environments

  • Enjoy building systems and processes that bring order to ambiguity and scale impact across the organization
