The role

We are looking for Supplier Quality Engineers to make sure the materials and cells we buy meet Amprius standards every time. You will be the quality owner for a set of suppliers or contract manufacturers, working side by side with the supply manager who owns the commercial relationship. You will qualify new sources, monitor ongoing performance, and drive problems to root cause and permanent fixes. Reporting to Senior Supplier Quality Manager.

What you will do

Qualification and launch

• Audit new and existing suppliers and CMs against AS9100, ISO 9001 and Amprius requirements.

• Lead PPAP or first-article approval for new materials, second sources and new CM production lines.

• Define incoming inspection plans, material specifications and acceptance criteria with R&D and Manufacturing Quality.

• Support transfer of new cell designs into CM production, including control plans and process FMEAs.

Ongoing performance

• Track yield, defect and on-time data and publish quarterly sc

• Run regular quality reviews with suppliers and CMs, and lead on-site audits and process checks.

• Review and approve supplier change notifications through the Amprius change control process.

Problem solving

• Lead the response to nonconforming material and quality escapes: containment, root cause and corrective action (8D / CAPA).

• Drive corrective actions to closure within target and verify they prevent repeat issues.

• Lead or support Lean and Six Sigma projects that improve supplier quality and cost.

Focus areas

• CM-focused roles: cell assembly and formation process quality, in-process controls, outgoing quality and on-site presence during builds and ramps.

• Materials-focused roles: anode, cathode, electrolyte, separator and packaging materials; certificates of analysis, material characterization and lot-to-lot consistency.


Requirements

What you bring

• Bachelor's degree in chemical, materials, mechanical or electrical engineering, or a related field.

• 3+ years in supplier quality or manufacturing quality for manufactured hardware (5+ years for Senior level).

• Hands-on experience with supplier audits, PPAP or first-article approval, and 8D or CAPA.

• Working knowledge of FMEA, control plans, SPC and measurement system analysis.

• Clear communicator who can hold suppliers to requirements while keeping a good working relationship.

• Willing to travel internationally, 25-40%, including supplier and CM sites in Asia.

Nice to have

• Lithium-ion cell, battery or battery materials experience.

• Process-heavy manufacturing (chemicals, coatings, semiconductors, displays).

• Aerospace or defense supply base experience (AS9100).

• ASQ CQE certification, Six Sigma Green or Black Belt, or ISO / AS9100 auditor training.
