About the Team

OpenAI’s Hardware organization develops silicon and system-level solutions designed for the unique demands of advanced AI workloads. The team is responsible for building the next generation of AI-native silicon while working closely with software and research partners to co-design hardware tightly integrated with AI models. In addition to delivering production-grade silicon for OpenAI’s supercomputing infrastructure, the team also creates custom design tools and methodologies that accelerate innovation and enable hardware optimized specifically for AI.

About the Role

As a Supply Chain Program Manager, you will own material readiness and supply chain execution for critical hardware programs spanning custom silicon, systems, memory, storage, networking, and rack infrastructure.

You will work cross-functionally with Engineering, Strategic Sourcing, Manufacturing Operations, Finance, Planning, Quality, and external suppliers to develop and execute scalable supply strategies that support aggressive product development and deployment timelines.

This role requires deep understanding of hardware supply chains, material planning, NPI execution, supplier management, and operational scaling in constrained and rapidly evolving environments.

In this role you will:

  • Material Readiness & Supply Planning - Own end-to-end material readiness across NPI and production phases, including building the necessary framework and processes for enablement.

  • Drive supply planning and execution for long lead-time and constrained commodities including ASICs, HBM, DDR, SSDs, networking, optics, power, thermal, and mechanicals.

  • Build and manage material readiness plans aligned to proto/pre-EVT, EVT, DVT, PVT, and mass production schedules.

  • Monitor supply health, lead times, inventory positions, allocation risk, and capacity constraints.

  • Drive shortage management, allocation mitigation, and recovery planning.

  • Coordinate supply commits, forecast alignment, and supply continuity planning with suppliers and manufacturing partners.

  • Cross-Functional Program Management - Partner with Engineering to translate product requirements into executable supply chain strategies.

  • Drive alignment across Strategic Sourcing, Commodity Management, Manufacturing Operations, Finance, Quality, and Planning teams.

  • Coordinate with ODMs, CMs, and suppliers on material schedules, build readiness, and operational execution.

  • Lead material reviews, supply risk assessments, and executive-level program updates.

  • Establish governance models and operating cadences across internal and external stakeholders.

  • Supplier & Manufacturing Partner Management - Work closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners to manage supply continuity and operational readiness.

  • Drive supplier accountability around lead times, commits, recovery plans, and escalation management.

  • Support commercial negotiations through operational and supply chain insights.

  • Coordinate material flow strategies across suppliers, hubs, manufacturing sites, and deployment locations.

  • Evaluate second-source and supply resiliency strategies.

  • Process & Operational Scaling - Develop scalable material planning and execution mechanisms.

  • Improve forecast management, supply visibility, exception handling, and inventory planning processes.

  • Build dashboards and KPI frameworks for supply readiness, shortages, inventory exposure, and operational health.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across supply chain execution and operational processes.

You might thrive in this role if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Operations, Business, or related field.

  • 8+ years of experience in Supply Chain Program Management, Material Program Management, Commodity Management, Strategic Sourcing, or related hardware supply chain roles.

  • Experience supporting complex hardware products through NPI and production ramps.

  • Strong understanding of hardware supply chains, material planning, and supplier operations.

  • Experience managing constrained supply environments and long lead-time commodities.

  • Experience working with ODMs, CMs, and global supplier ecosystems.

  • Strong analytical, program management, and executive communication skills.

  • Ability to drive cross-functional alignment in ambiguous and fast-moving environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting AI/ML infrastructure, servers, networking, storage, or custom silicon programs.

  • Experience with ASIC supply chains, advanced packaging, HBM/DDR memory ecosystems, or hyperscale infrastructure deployments.

  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP/PLM systems, BOM structuring, and supply planning tools.

  • Experience building supply resiliency and second-source strategies.

  • Experience operating in highly constrained and rapidly scaling environments.

To comply with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidates for this role may need to meet certain legal status requirements as provided in those laws and regulations.

Compensation Range: $226K - $285K USD
