Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.

Waymo’s Technical Program Managers are accountable for Waymo’s roadmap execution by providing thoughtful cross-functional planning, clarity, and proactive risk management. In the face of complex technical and operational challenges with no established playbooks to follow, we act with thoughtful urgency, driving conversations, discussions, and outcomes. Our team partners closely with every function of Waymo to structure, own and drive work towards real-world deployments of the Waymo Driver across platforms and geographies.

This role follows a hybrid work schedule and reports and you will report to a Manager of Technical Program Management.

You will:

  • Own and drive the execution for core infrastructure programs
  • Manage the roadmap and delivery of high-availability simulation platforms, ensuring performance and scale for engineering development and testing
  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and service level objectives (SLOs) for the core infrastructure services (e.g., data pipeline latency, storage reliability)
  • Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, and Data Science teams to manage dependencies
  • Proactively identify technical risks and bottlenecks in the data and simulation pipelines, proposing and driving mitigation strategies
  • Lead effective communication, including program reviews and status updates, to executive and cross-functional stakeholders

You have:

  • 7+ years of experience in technical program management, particularly in a complex, multi-team environment within a software or infrastructure organization
  • Demonstrated knowledge of distributed systems, large-scale data management, and cloud infrastructure principles
  • Experience managing reliability programs in a rapidly scaling, high-availability environment (SRE or DevOps principles)
  • Proven ability to translate complex technical issues related to storage, simulation, or data pipelines for non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience with the software development lifecycle, specifically in environments that iterate rapidly on data-intensive products
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a track record of driving alignment without direct authority

We prefer:

  • Experience in the Autonomous Vehicle (AV) industry or other complex, real-time control systems
  • Prior experience as a software engineer in a domain related to data engineering, storage systems, or large-scale simulation
  • Familiarity with machine learning data workflows, including feature store management and model training/evaluation data sets
  • Experience with on-call rotations and triaging technical issues in a high-severity incident management process
  • Demonstrated ability to drive long-term strategy for an evolving technical domain
