Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

The infrastructure teams provide efficient and optimized infrastructure for Stripe to build secure, reliable and differentiated products, while enabling Stripe developers to achieve their highest potential. Stripe makes it easy for any developer to access and manage the capabilities of the financial system while maintaining the least regulatory friction. We work to enable developers to have the most productive results of their entire career from the very first days they join Stripe through years of developing new systems and products.

What you’ll do

We’re looking for an experienced Manager with outstanding technical, program and people management skills. As a Manager of a team of TPMs, you will support your team members in leading cross-functional initiatives spanning the organization. You will focus on developing careers, setting guidelines, developing and sharing best practices, and providing hands-on coaching and mentorship for your reports. You will also act as a TPM on select cross-cutting projects as needed. You will partner with engineering and product leaders in defining the strategy and roadmap and ensuring that we define and deliver programs to meet our goals. Effective Technical Program Managers at Stripe always bias towards driving the right solutions for our users and internal stakeholders with the north star focus of delivering long term impact for the product and for Stripe. You’ll do this even when it’s not the easiest path for us or our teams, and requires trade-off decisions. You will look ahead and around corners to enable our teams to operate at their best, and for opportunities to eliminate the unnecessary in delivering results.

Responsibilities
  • Build, lead and manage high-performing teams and individuals, across multiple locations, including providing performance reviews, continual feedback, and career growth
  • Define and deliver on long-term vision and multi-year strategy for company-wide programs collaborating with product management and engineering leadership/executives
  • Partner with leaders to set the strategy of the overall group and define the operating model
  • Set the bar for program execution by ensuring teams use optimal and effective operational cadences with consistent communication and proactive risk management
  • Bring technical expertise to bear on program execution
  • Deliver value through strong collaboration with multiple stakeholders across Stripe
  • Mentor and coach managers and senior contributors to create healthy and well-executing cross-functional teams
Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements
  • 3+ years of management experience of varying seniority, including growing teams, people development
  • 8+ years of software engineering, systems engineering or technical product/program management experience
  • Extensive experience in finding and growing talent through coaching, mentoring, and career development conversations
  • Experience driving technical programs from ideation to delivery at scale and leading teams of Technical Program Managers who have done the same
  • Experience operating autonomously and leading across multiple teams, with stakeholders in different disciplines across time zones
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and thought leadership
Preferred qualifications
  • You are comfortable working with geographically distributed teams
  • You’ve managed teams that designed and operated critical infrastructure
  • You are empathetic to customer needs but visionary enough to not just deliver a faster horse
  • You are excited about collaborating with teammates across Stripe’s organization
  • Past experience as an engineer or similar technical role
