Reporting directly to the VP of Product, you will own the coordination, prioritization, and execution of critical payments initiatives, driving continuous product improvement, scalability, and innovation.
This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives in complexity, understands payment systems deeply, and can lead cross-functional execution in a startup environment.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Program Leadership
  • Lead end-to-end execution of complex payments initiatives, from requirements definition to release.
  • Translate high-level product vision into structured execution plans.
  • Drive alignment between Product, Engineering, and Business stakeholders.
  • Balance speed, scalability, and reliability in a fast-paced environment.
Payments Product Execution
  • Coordinate multiple payments-related workstreams, ensuring visibility, prioritization, and clear ownership.
  • Manage roadmaps, milestones, dependencies, and delivery timelines.
  • Identify technical and operational risks early and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Continuously improve product performance, reliability, and connectivity across payment systems.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Engineering to define architecture trade-offs and delivery sequencing.
  • Partner with Product Managers to refine scope, requirements, and impact measurement.
  • Communicate clearly with executives, providing structured updates and strategic insights.
  • Align payment capabilities with merchant and enterprise needs.
Process & Optimization
  • Implement scalable program management frameworks and execution processes.
  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for payments performance.
  • Improve internal coordination, visibility, and operational efficiency.
  • Establish best practices for technical documentation, release planning, and stakeholder communication.
Technical & Business Impact
  • Contribute to long-term payments strategy and roadmap evolution.
  • Help scale payment infrastructure to support high-traffic, transaction-heavy environments.
  • Ensure that technical decisions align with product scalability, cost efficiency, and merchant value.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 8+ years of experience in technical program management, product operations, or complex cross-functional delivery roles.
  • Strong understanding of payments systems, payment orchestration, integrations, or financial platforms.
  • Experience working closely with engineering teams in highly technical environments.
  • Ability to manage complex technical initiatives across multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of APIs, system architecture, and distributed systems.

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
