Sr. Recruiter

Hi! I’m Sarah :) As Additive continues to grow, I’m building out our hiring team internally!

Additive, an AI tax startup, was acquired by Thomson Reuters. Since then, not a lot has changed, but at the same time, a lot has! We still very much operate like our own startup, but now with the resources and support of a huge, established company behind us. Our product is being integrated into the broader suite of Thomson Reuters products, and the team keeps growing.

I’m hoping to find someone I’ll genuinely love working with. Together, the two of us will be responsible for growing our engineering team and helping shape what Additive becomes next

About the role

Additive is looking for a Technical Recruiter to help build the team behind an AI product transforming tax and accounting.

This is not a role where you inherit a polished recruiting machine and simply keep it running. We are still building the machine.

You will own searches from first outreach through signed offer, work directly with hiring managers, and help us figure out how Additive should hire as we scale. Engineering will be the biggest focus, but you will recruit across the company as needed.

We care a lot about quality, speed, and candidate experience. We are looking for someone who can find exceptional people, build trust with them quickly, and keep a search moving without needing a lot of structure around them.

What you’ll do
  • Own searches from start to finish. Source, screen, coordinate interviews, manage candidates, run offers, and close.

  • Build engineering pipelines from scratch. You should be comfortable going outbound, finding hard-to-reach candidates, writing strong outreach, and creating momentum where there is no existing pipeline.

  • Become a real partner to hiring managers. Push for clarity on what great looks like, calibrate quickly, surface tradeoffs, and keep searches moving.

  • Close great candidates. Understand what motivates someone, build conviction throughout the process, navigate competing offers, and help us land people we are excited about.

  • Make the candidate experience excellent. Candidates should leave every interaction with a clear sense of who we are, what we are building, and why the opportunity is worth considering.

  • Help build the recruiting function. Improve our processes, tooling, interview practices, scorecards, and operating rhythms as the company grows.

  • Know your pipeline. Track where searches stand, identify problems early, and communicate clearly about progress, risks, and what needs to change.

  • Tell the Additive story well. We are a small, ambitious team building inside Thomson Reuters, and you should be able to explain why that combination is unusual and compelling.

What we’re looking for

Required:

  • 2 to 4+ years of recruiting experience, either in-house or agency, with experience independently owning searches from sourcing through close.

  • Experience recruiting technical talent, particularly software engineers.

  • Strong sourcing instincts. You do not rely on inbound applicants to fill roles.

  • Excellent judgment and communication with both candidates and hiring managers.

  • Comfortable working with incomplete information, changing priorities, and processes that are still being built.

  • High ownership. If a search is not working, you dig in, figure out why, and change the approach.

  • We work fully in person, five days per week, in downtown San Francisco. Additive can cover relocation costs for candidates moving to the San Francisco area.

Nice to have:

  • Experience recruiting for an early-stage or high-growth startup.

  • Experience closing highly sought-after engineering candidates in competitive markets.

  • Familiarity with ATS and recruiting tools such as Ashby, Greenhouse, or Lever.

  • Experience building recruiting processes, interview loops, scorecards, or hiring playbooks from scratch.

Core Values
  • Championship-winning mindset: We are here to build something exceptional, and outstanding performance is the expectation.

  • Team First: We are low ego. The success of the team and the mission comes before individual credit.

  • Tenacious: We are willing to do difficult, repetitive, and unglamorous work when that is what the job requires.

  • Accountant Obsessed: We exist to 10x accountants. Everyone at Additive spends time directly with accountants to understand their work and make it dramatically better.

  • Genuine Fun: We take the work seriously without taking ourselves too seriously. We are building something ambitious with people we genuinely enjoy working with.

Compensation & Benefits
  • $125-$150K+ salary, depending on experience

  • Full health, dental, and vision coverage

  • 401(k) with match

  • Commuter benefits, including parking and public transportation

  • Lunch and dinner onsite

  • Free Equinox membership, with Equinox located directly across the street from the office 🏋️

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
