What you’ll do

At Stripe we consider the developer experience to be central to the overall experience of our customers. When we do our job well, developers all over the world are able to smoothly launch and grow their businesses on Stripe, whether they’re integrating payments for the first time or building & growing complex systems on our financial infrastructure.

Stripe is beloved by developers for the simplicity of our APIs, the thoroughness of our documentation, and our focus on developer experience. The Technical Solutions Engineering team is the glue to make that possible. We make our users feel empowered when we show them about something Stripe could do that they didn't think was possible. Internally, we champion developer experience as central to the overall experience around Stripe.

Responsibilities

  • Develop both the long-term vision and strategy for the Technical Solutions Engineering team and manage day-to-day operations
  • Develop relationships across the entire organization at Stripe to influence others in aiming for the best developer experience possible
  • Work cross-functionally across Stripe to bring innovative ways to make Stripe’s developer experience even more self-serve & impactful.
  • Recruit, coach, and develop user facing engineers

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements
  • Experience leading, managing and developing user-facing engineering teams
  • Background in software development in one or more programming languages
  • Your immediate team is based in Singapore and Japan, with US-based management (Central Time). This role requires a work schedule that provides meaningful daily overlap with APAC business hours. For candidates based in the United States, this role is only suitable for those in Pacific Time zones, working approximately 11 AM to 8 PM PT. The exact hours are flexible within that range, but APAC overlap is a firm requirement of the role.
Preferred qualifications
  • Direct experience as a user-facing engineer is highly desired.
  • You attract great teammates.
  • You encourage a healthy work environment that’s both supportive and challenging.
  • You’re excited to help engineers develop new skills and advance in their careers.
  • You understand what makes teams successful and what role a manager can play in that process.
  • You’re clear and persuasive in writing and in person.
  • You lead by example, by setting the right context, and by helping teammates do their best work.
  • You know when to let a team work through problems and when to jump in to help.
  • You’re technical enough to ask engineers good questions about design and integration decisions.
