(Temporary Assignment) Director of Financial Aid

Position Details:

• Temporary Assignment: Approximately 3 months, covering a leave of absence
• Schedule: Full-time, Exempt
• Pay Range: $7,000 - $7,833.33 per month, depending on experience and qualifications
• Location: On-site in Hayward, CA 

Position Overview

The Temporary Financial Aid Director is responsible for overseeing the administration of federal, state, institutional, and private financial aid programs, including loans, grants, scholarships, and work-study. The position ensures compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, accreditation standards, and institutional policies while providing timely, accurate, and student-centered financial aid services. The Director also supports the development and enhancement of financial aid resources and programs that promote access to and successful completion of chiropractic education.

Job Responsibilities

• Maintain a complete and current knowledge of federal and state regulations, policies and procedures to insure compliance in the administrating of the financial aid programs.
• Provide high level support/lead in implementing provisions of the OBBB; including, but not limited to determining time to credential, legacy status and schedule of prorations. 
• Plan, evaluate, interpret regulations and administer all financial aid programs, insuring compliance with regulations, procedures and eligibility requirements. Provide leadership in developing innovative approaches in the financial aid arena (default management, etc.).
• Responsible for staff supervision, hiring, evaluations, staff training, monitoring work load, assessing departmental needs and dealing with personnel issues as needed.
• Implement and manage computer systems to improve various financial aid processes requiring knowledge and experience with financial aid automated systems, including COD, Edconnect and CAMS.
• Prepare and reconcile Department of Education reports (FISAP), Program Participation Agreement, our Annual Financial Aid Audit, and other federal/state reports as requested.
• Determine, implement and monitor federal requirements in student budgets, satisfactory academic progress policy and in calculating Title IV returns and Tuition Refunds. Analyze and update student budget on an annual basis, evaluating cost of living components.
• Implement, evaluate and enhance the college’s financial literacy program to strength current students and alumni in knowledge and financial skills related to student loans repayment strategies, debt reduction, financial planning, etc.
• Advise current and prospective students on financial aid eligibility, program requirements and application procedures. Trouble-shooting with staff on complex issues.
• Develop, implement and assess scholarship program(s) for prospective students and for currently enrolled students.
• Coordinate with admissions on utilization of scholarship funds in the area of recruitment. Create flyers, marketing tools, applications, tracking and evaluation mechanisms.
• Revise, update and enhance financial aid publications, including the financial aid application, financial aid website and other publications as needed.
• Serve as Chair of the Scholarship Committee (policy and award selection) and the Financial Aid Advisory Committee (financial aid appeals). Participate in other committees including: Academic Standards Committee, TIC and Student Support Council.
• Liaison with Admissions Office, Business Office and other departments as needed to insure the smooth operation of services to students.

Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s Degree required, Masters preferred
• 5-7 years of experience in financial aid (2-3 of those years must include staff supervision)
• In depth knowledge and experience with federal/state programs and regulations
• Demonstrated leadership and management skills
• Strong interpersonal, analytical and communication skills
• Innovative problem-solver with high ability to multi-task
• Knowledge of financial aid computer systems (Edconnect and CAMS)
• Student and financial aid advocate via campus activities and involvement in state association
• Experience with enrollment management concepts.
• Interpret and implement complicated data & formula
• Strong independent decision-making skills using sound & professional judgment.
