Overview

The Microsoft Threat Analysis Center (MTAC) is looking for an AI threat investigator who will focus on identifying AI abuses across Microsoft's platforms and other AI platforms. This role involves tracking and investigating sophisticated actors, ranging from nation-state threat groups to influence-for-hire actors, and beyond. They will contribute to MTAC’s mission to detect, assess, and disrupt digital threats to Microsoft, its customers, and democracies worldwide. MTAC is part of the Customer Security & Trust (CST) organization within Microsoft’s Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs (CELA) group.  If you love "hunting in data" and the utilization and counter utilization of AI this is the opportunity for you!


Responsibilities
  • Investigate AI-enabled threats and identify emerging patterns of adversary activity.
  • Conduct open-source research across social media platforms, websites, and other digital sources.
  • Analyze technical and behavioral indicators associated with the misuse of AI systems.
  • Experiment with emerging AI tools, models, and agentic workflows to improve threat hunting, analysis, and reporting.
  • Develop lightweight analytical workflows, automations, and prototypes that leverage AI to identify, investigate, and track threat actors at scale.
  • Produce written intelligence assessments and brief findings to stakeholders.
  • Synthesize information from multiple sources, including open-source reporting, technical data, and geopolitical developments.
  • Collaborate with analysts and investigators across Microsoft's threat intelligence community.
  • Apply innovative, non-intrusive, and law-abiding methods to identify and assess threats in the information environment.

Qualifications
  • Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Finance, Mathematics, Analytics, Engineering, Computer Science, Marketing, Business, Economics or related field OR equivalent experience.
  •  
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Mathematics, Analytics, Engineering, Computer Science, Marketing, Business, Economics or related field OR Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Finance, Mathematics, Analytics, Engineering, Computer Science, Marketing, Business, Economics or related field AND 2+ years experience in data analysis and reporting, business intelligence, or business and financial analysis OR equivalent experience.
  • 1–3 years of experience in threat intelligence, cybersecurity, intelligence analysis, international affairs, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with artificial intelligence technologies and their potential misuse by threat actors.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience using Python, SQL, or similar technologies to build analytical workflows
  • Demonstrated curiosity and willingness to rapidly evaluate and adopt new AI tools, platforms, and methodologies.
  • Experience using AI systems to assist research, analysis, data processing, workflow automation, or investigative work.
  • Experience conducting open-source research and analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced, in-person office.
  • The ability to speak and work in a language other than English is a plus.
  • Experience working across technical and non-technical teams is a plus.

Business Analytics IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $70,500 - $139,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $95,000 - $153,200 per year.
