The Details
As an USRM Underwriting Intern, you'll gain hands-on experience evaluating risk and helping make informed business decisions. Underwriters play a critical role in supporting profitable growth by assessing customer needs, analyzing risk exposures, and determining appropriate insurance solutions.
Throughout this 11-week internship, you'll work alongside experienced underwriting professionals and gain exposure to the foundation of commercial insurance underwriting, including risk assessment, relationship management, and business decision-making.
This opportunity is within Liberty Mutual's U.S. Retail Markets (USRM) organization, which provides insurance products and services to individuals and small businesses across the country.
Commercial Lines Underwriting
Our Commercial Lines Underwriting team partners with agents and business owners to help protect small businesses from a wide range of risks. By evaluating information, analyzing business operations, and understanding customer needs, underwriters help determine the right insurance solutions and pricing for each client. Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

What you've got
- You are pursuing a bachelor's degree in Risk Management & Insurance, Economics, Business, or comparable with at least one semester remaining following the Summer of 2027 with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- You have 0-2 years of professional experience.
- You possess strong analytical, decision-making, and negotiating skills.
- You have solid interpersonal skills and demonstrate a passion for customer service.
- You must be willing to complete professional designation(s) and continued insurance education post graduation.
- You must be available to work full-time for 11 weeks.
- You must have permanent work authorization in the United States.
