About Harbor

Harbor is insurance for the agentic economy. Banks, insurers, hospitals and law firms are handing real decisions to AI agents: approving loans, pricing policies, moving money, advising customers, thousands of times a day. When one gets it wrong, nobody knows who is liable, and insurers are excluding AI from existing policies because there is no claims history to price it.

We fix that. Our platform finds every agent a company runs, measures its operational, security and regulatory risk against a framework mapped to NIST AI RMF, SR 26-2 and the EU AI Act, and blocks the decisions that break the company's rules before they go through. Then we insure the risk that remains, with our own money behind the answer.

We emerged from stealth in October 2026 with $10M in seed funding from Base10 Partners, Abstract and 8VC. Born out of Stanford, Harbor brings together AI researchers, engineers, IMO and IOI medalists, former founders, and insurance leaders, with the shared mission of building the risk infrastructure for AI.

About the role

Harbor insures a risk that has never been priced before: an autonomous system making decisions at machine speed inside a regulated company. You will help build how that risk is understood, selected and priced. You will work from the richest data any underwriter has ever had on an insured, since our platform measures every agent continuously, and you will turn it into appetite, wordings and prices that carriers and reinsurers will stand behind.

What you will do
  • Underwrite agent risk for banks, insurers and other regulated customers, from technical review through pricing and terms.

  • Build the underwriting framework: how our risk scores map to appetite, limits, retentions and price. Help decide what we insure and what we do not.

  • Work with carrier and reinsurance partners on wordings, programs and capacity.

  • Partner with Engineering to shape what the platform measures, so that what we insure is what we can see.

  • Learn from every claim, incident and near miss, and feed it back into the framework.

Who we are looking for
  • Experience underwriting complex commercial risk, ideally cyber, technology E&O, professional liability or financial lines.

  • You understand how programs get built with carriers and reinsurers, and you have sat across the table from them.

  • You are comfortable with data and quantitative work, and you want far more of it than traditional underwriting gives you.

  • You are curious about how AI systems actually work and fail, and willing to learn the technical side deeply.

  • You are comfortable making judgment calls where there is no loss history, and documenting why.

Nice to have
  • Actuarial training, or experience working closely with actuaries.

  • Claims experience.

  • Experience at an MGA, an insurtech, or an innovation unit within a carrier.

  • A licence or regulatory familiarity in the United States, the United Kingdom or the European Union.

How we work
  • Founder mentality: Everyone owns a piece of the company, not a job description.

  • Ownership over outcomes: You decide, you ship, you answer for the result.

  • High pace: We decide in days, ship in weeks, and fix what we got wrong just as quickly.

  • Good hearts: Direct, demanding and kind.

  • Hybrid in San Francisco.

What we offer
  • Competitive salary and meaningful early-stage equity.

  • Medical, dental and vision for you and your dependents.

  • Unlimited paid time off.

  • Relocation support to San Francisco.

Harbor is an equal opportunity employer. We hire on what you can do. If you need an accommodation during the process, tell us and we will arrange it.
