What you'll do...Role summary:
As a Principal Engineer, you will help define the technical vision for a business-critical platform that sits at the heart of Walmart's supply chain, influencing architecture, platform strategy, operational excellence, and next-generation AI-powered transportation capabilities at unprecedented scale. This role requires overseeing the full software development lifecycle, ensuring high availability and system reliability while aligning technical execution with strategic roadmaps. You will provide technical leadership, lead AI assisted software development practices and design agentic AI solutions to improve operational efficiency.
About the team:
Stride TMS is Walmart's strategic transportation platform, responsible for modernizing and optimizing freight movement across the supply chain. The team builds large-scale distributed systems, automation, and operational intelligence that power transportation planning and execution across Walmart's vast logistics network. As we accelerate and grow our business, we are solving complex engineering challenges in scalability, reliability, AI-driven operations, and supply chain innovation.
What you'll do:
  • Lead platform engineering efforts to deliver scalable infrastructure, reusable tooling, and AI/ML frameworks aligned with strategic roadmaps.
  • Drive full software development lifecycle activities including design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance across multiple teams.
  • Architect cloud-native, distributed systems ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and real-time data processing capabilities.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, promoting best practices and architectural consistency.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into clear technical requirements and measurable success metrics.
  • Foster continuous improvement through innovation, knowledge sharing, and adoption of advanced development tools.

What you'll bring:
  • Extensive experience in platform engineering leadership, delivering scalable, cloud-native architectures and reusable tooling.
  • Proven ability to drive full software development lifecycle including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance.
  • Strong expertise in designing distributed systems optimized for real-time data processing and AI/ML integration.
  • Proficiency in applying model-driven design and leveraging AI agents to enhance software solutions.
  • Demonstrated technical judgment with sound decision-making and long-term architectural planning.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and mentoring engineering teams.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
