About the Role
Nium is looking for a VP - Product to lead the strategy, commercial performance, and end-to-end evolution of our global payments product portfolio, with particular focus on payments infrastructure, card issuance, and stablecoins/digital assets.
Reporting directly to the CEO, this highly visible leader will translate company strategy into differentiated products that create measurable value for customers and the business. You will operate as a mini-GM and true product owner for your portfolio - accountable not only for vision and delivery, but also for market fit, go-to-market readiness, adoption, revenue, margin, and long-term performance.
You will work at the intersection of product, technology, commercial strategy, financial infrastructure, and regulation, partnering closely with Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Network & Partnerships, Treasury, Compliance, Operations, and senior leadership across Nium.
This is not a purely strategic leadership role. The successful candidate will move comfortably between long-term product vision, customer and market research, commercial decisions, technical architecture, go-to-market execution, and detailed product trade-offs.
What You'll Do
- Operate as the mini-GM and accountable product owner for a significant portfolio spanning payments, card issuance, and emerging stablecoin capabilities, with clear ownership of product outcomes and business performance.
- Own the complete product lifecycle - from customer discovery, market research, opportunity sizing, and business case development through roadmap prioritization, build, launch, go-to-market, adoption, optimization, and eventual product retirement.
- Set the product vision, strategy, and roadmap, partnering directly with the CEO and executive leadership team to translate company priorities into focused investments and measurable outcomes, and represent Product in executive, board-level, strategic partner, and key customer discussions.
- Own the commercial success of the portfolio by shaping business cases, pricing, packaging, monetization, and investment decisions, and by managing performance against revenue, payment volume, margin, adoption, retention, and return-on-investment goals.
- Partner deeply with Sales, Marketing, Solutions, and Customer Success to define target segments, sharpen value propositions, build go-to-market plans, enable commercial teams, support strategic deals, and accelerate adoption.
- Build a disciplined customer-insight engine through direct customer engagement, win/loss analysis, qualitative and quantitative research, and continuous validation of customer problems and product-market fit.
- Maintain a strong view of the competitive landscape, emerging technologies, customer expectations, and market structure; translate those insights into product differentiation, build/partner/buy decisions, and strategic advantage.
- Use AI tools fluently, effectively, and responsibly to accelerate research, insight synthesis, decision-making, and day-to-day product execution within appropriate security and governance controls.
- Lead, develop, and scale a high-performing product organization, establishing strong standards for discovery, prioritization, execution, accountability, and commercial thinking.
- Drive the evolution of Nium's global money-movement capabilities, including cross-border payments, real-time payment rails, collections, FX, accounts/wallets, and settlement infrastructure.
- Lead the strategy for Nium's card-issuance platform, including virtual and physical cards, issuer processing, card lifecycle management, authorization, controls, tokenization, and Visa/Mastercard network capabilities.
- Define Nium's stablecoin and digital-asset product strategy, identifying practical opportunities across cross-border payments, treasury, settlement, liquidity, and card products while balancing customer value, scalability, regulation, and operational complexity.
- Champion an API-first platform strategy and partner with Engineering and Architecture to deliver scalable, resilient infrastructure across authorization, clearing, settlement, ledgering, reconciliation, APIs, webhooks, and developer tooling.
- Partner with Compliance, Legal, Treasury, Risk, Network, and Operations to launch and scale products responsibly across multiple markets and regulatory environments.
What We're Looking For
- Significant product leadership experience in fintech, payments, banking infrastructure, card networks, or financial technology, including experience leading senior product teams.
- A product-owner and mini-GM mindset, with a record of owning strategy, execution, commercial outcomes, and portfolio performance rather than operating as a roadmap manager alone.
- Deep understanding of payments infrastructure and money movement, ideally spanning cross-border and real-time payments, payment rails, FX, treasury, accounts/wallets, or settlement.
- Strong experience with card issuance and/or processing, including authorization, clearing and settlement, card lifecycle, issuer processors, BIN sponsorship, tokenization, controls, disputes/chargebacks, and card-scheme requirements.
- Meaningful knowledge of stablecoins, blockchain-based payments, or digital-asset infrastructure, with the judgment to distinguish practical enterprise use cases from emerging technology trends.
- Demonstrated end-to-end product leadership, including discovery, research, business cases, development, launch, go-to-market, adoption, optimization, and lifecycle management.
- Proven commercial ownership, with the ability to connect product decisions to pricing, revenue, payment volume, margin, adoption, retention, unit economics, and strategic differentiation.
- Experience partnering with Sales and Marketing to define market segments, value propositions, launch strategies, commercial enablement, and growth plans.
- Strong customer and market orientation, including direct enterprise-customer discovery, market sizing, competitive analysis, and the use of research and data to guide investment decisions.
- Strong AI fluency, with demonstrated ability to apply AI tools effectively and responsibly across research, discovery, analysis, prototyping, communication, and product execution.
- Experience building API-first B2B or enterprise platforms and working closely with Engineering on complex technical products.
- Demonstrated success taking products from 0-to-1 and scaling them globally while navigating ambiguity and making difficult prioritization decisions.
- Experience operating in highly regulated environments and partnering effectively with Compliance, Legal, Risk, Treasury, Operations, banks, card networks, and other external partners.
- Strong executive presence and the ability to communicate complex technical, financial, customer, and competitive concepts clearly and influence across functions.
- A global mindset and experience building products across multiple markets, regulatory environments, currencies, and payment ecosystems.
Nice To Have
- Experience at a high-growth fintech or payments startup, particularly through a period of significant scale.
- Direct experience launching stablecoin-powered payments, settlement, treasury, or card products.
- Experience with both traditional payment infrastructure and blockchain-based rails.
- Experience owning a significant payments, cards, or fintech product P&L.
- Prior experience working with banks, card networks, issuer processors, payment schemes, liquidity providers, or blockchain infrastructure partners.
- Experience scaling a product organization while preserving individual accountability, customer proximity, and speed of execution.
What Success Looks Like
Success means building a clear and differentiated strategy that connects Nium's global payments infrastructure with the next generation of money movement - and converting that strategy into products customers buy, adopt, and expand.
You will determine where Nium should invest, what we should build, what we should not build, how we will win in the market, and how quickly we can bring differentiated products to customers - with clear accountability for commercial and customer outcomes.
You will also build an organization capable of executing that strategy end to end, developing strong product leaders while creating a culture of customer obsession, market awareness, technical depth, measurable outcomes, and ownership.
