Job DescriptionThe Role

Agilent is seeking an enterprise leader for its Advanced Therapeutics Division, a specialty CDMO platform spanning RNA oligonucleotide manufacturing in Colorado and BioVectra in Canada. The approximately $600 million business serves pharmaceutical and biotechnology customers from early development through commercial-scale manufacturing and is a significant LDG growth platform.

The Vice President, Strategy and Business Development is an enterprise executive role with full P&L accountability and end-to-end responsibility for the division's growth, performance and strategic development. The mandate spans commercial growth, portfolio and technology strategy, early R&D, strategic marketing, customer alliances, capital allocation and M&A. This leader will shape where Agilent competes, build a predictable revenue pipeline, allocate resources behind the most compelling opportunities and create an integrated organization capable of sustained, profitable growth.  The successful leader will convert differentiated scientific and manufacturing capabilities into a predictable revenue pipeline, focus the portfolio on the most attractive opportunities, and connect strategy and customer commitments to capacity, technical delivery, quality and economics.

Key Responsibilities
P&L Ownership & Business Leadership
  • Own the full P&L and overall performance of ATD, with accountability for revenue growth, pr ofitability, margin expansion, cash generation and return on invested capital.
  • Set and continually evolve the multiyear growth agenda, translating strategy into focused operating priorities, resource choices and measurable outcomes.
  • Establish a rigorous operating cadence using data, KPIs and leading indicators across commercial pipeline, program execution, productivity, innovation, quality and financial performance; balance near-term delivery with long-term investment.

Commercial Growth & Revenue Pipeline
  • Own the global business-development strategy and revenue opportunity pipeline end-to-end, from market development and lead generation through qualification, contracting, program award, scale-up and commercial handoff.
  • Build a systematic, data-driven commercial engine that improves pipeline quality, deal velocity, conversion, forecast accuracy and expansion within strategic accounts.
  • Develop deep relationships with senior pharmaceutical and biotechnology decision makers, personally lead the most consequential opportunities, and ensure customer commitments align with capability, capacity, quality, capital needs and long-term economics.

Strategic Customers, Alliances & External Leadership
  • Build durable alliances with key customers, technology partners and platform collaborators, positioning Agilent as a preferred development and manufacturing partner.
  • Develop a high-value network of scientific leaders and key opinion leaders and represent Agilent with authority at major customer engagements, industry forums and scientific conferences.
  • Create mechanisms that translate external customer, scientific and market insight into portfolio, R&D and investment decisions.

Portfolio, Marketing & Early R&D
  • Define short- and long-term portfolio strategy across RNA oligonucleotides, BioVectra and relevant adjacent modalities, identifying where Agilent can build differentiated and defensible leadership positions.
  • Oversee early-stage R&D and technology investment priorities, ensuring innovation addresses important customer problems and commercially attractive emerging modalities.
  • Own strategic marketing, segmentation, positioning and market development; assess modality mix, service-line expansion, capacity needs and technology evolution to determine where to invest, partner, acquire or deprioritize.

Capital Allocation & M&A
  • In close collaboration with Global Operations, drive the strategic capital-allocation agenda across manufacturing capacity, technology platforms, R&D and commercial capability using disciplined strategic and financial criteria.
  • Identify and develop acquisitions, partnerships, licensing opportunities and other strategic investments; build compelling business cases and secure alignment across Agilent leadership, Finance and Corporate Development.
  • Co-lead the strategic and organizational integration of acquired businesses and capabilities, with accountability for realization of the growth and value-creation thesis.

Organizational & Matrix Leadership
  • Lead and develop a geographically distributed, cross-functional organization spanning portfolio strategy, business development, early R&D, marketing and support functions.
  • Create shared purpose and increasing integration across the Colorado and BioVectra businesses while preserving the speed, expertise and customer responsiveness required in CDMO markets.
  • Build alignment across a complex global matrix and partner closely with Operations, Quality, Regulatory, Finance, HR, Legal, Corporate Development and other enterprise functions.
  • Attract and develop exceptional talent, build succession depth and create a culture of customer focus, accountability, collaboration, scientific curiosity and continuous improvement through periods of growth and change.
Measures of Success
  • A qualified and predictable opportunity pipeline that delivers targeted conversion, new program wins, customer retention and strategic-account expansion.
  • Achievement of revenue growth, margin and return targets in partnership with division and operations leadership.
  • A clear, prioritized portfolio and innovation agenda aligned with differentiated market opportunities and disciplined organic and inorganic investment decisions.
  • Customer commitments and growth priorities aligned with capacity, technical delivery, quality requirements and sustainable long-term economics.
  • An integrated organization with effective cross-functional collaboration, succession coverage for critical roles and external recognition as a preferred advanced therapeutics partner.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a proven enterprise leader with deep strength in commercial lead generation and portfolio strategy, supported by scientific and technical fluency, financial discipline and a strong connection to operations. The role does not require prior full P&L or direct operations ownership, but it does require evidence that the candidate can make sound growth decisions in a complex development and manufacturing environment.

Experience

  • 15 or more years of progressive leadership experience in CDMO, biopharma manufacturing, life-sciences tools or services, or a closely related sector, including significant executive responsibility.
  • Demonstrated accountability for commercial growth and meaningful financial outcomes at scale. Full P&L ownership is preferred; comparable responsibility for a major business, portfolio, commercial function or growth agenda will also be considered.
  • Broad and deep understanding of pharmaceutical and biotechnology customers and the scientific, regulatory, quality and economic dynamics of development and manufacturing.
  • Relevant exposure to nucleic-acid therapeutics, oligonucleotides, RNA, biologics, APIs, peptides, complex chemistry or other advanced therapeutic modalities; direct oligonucleotide experience is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, strategic-account leadership and the creation and conversion of complex, high-value revenue pipelines.
  • Meaningful leadership across portfolio strategy, strategic marketing, early R&D or technology choices, with a record of translating market insight into clear investment priorities.
  • Clear operational fluency and credibility, including an understanding of capacity, technical transfer, program delivery, quality, productivity and capital tradeoffs.
  • Direct experience with major organic capital decisions and meaningful involvement in M&A, partnerships, diligence and integration.
  • Proven ability to integrate resources across a large, global matrix and influence executive stakeholders who are not direct reports.

  • Collaborative and influential. Builds trust and alignment across organizational boundaries through listening, clarity, evidence and persuasion.
  • Data and process oriented. Uses a small set of meaningful KPIs and operating mechanisms to improve decision quality, predictability and accountability.
