The Company You’ll Join

At Rebuy, we're on a mission to revolutionize shopping with intelligent, personalized experiences that wow customers around the globe. As a fully remote team, we power some of the fastest growing DTC brands like Tecovas, Momofuku, Dime Beauty, Liquid Death, Magic Spoon, OLLY, and many more.

We believe in ownership, drive, and empathy and strongly uphold that every team member plays a vital role in shaping the future of intelligent commerce. Our culture thrives on collaboration, creativity, and genuine passion. We don’t just build great tech - we build lasting partnerships, a strong community, and a place where people love to work.

The Role

As the VP of Engineering, you report directly to the CEO and will own the engineering organization and the technical delivery of rebuyengine.com. You will lead the engineering pods (4–6 engineers each, one team captain per pod) and partner with the VP of Product on the roadmap and with the CEO/COO on operational execution. One of the main objectives will be to deliver the 2nd version of the API-first surface — the standardized REST tool set that makes Rebuy the cleanest API in the Shopify ecosystem for agents to call.

What You’ll Do:

Delivery and Execution

  • Establish reliable, repeatable software release processes that enable frequent, low-risk deployments while maintaining production stability

  • Implement rigorous QA practices, automated testing standards, uptime, and pre-release checklists that systematically reduce bug escape rates and customer-facing incidents

  • Hold the engineering org accountable to sprint and quarterly commitments, using metrics like cycle time, deployment frequency, and incident rates to identify and address bottlenecks and chokepoints

  • Own all engineering KPIs: delivery velocity, system reliability, defect density, hiring quality

  • Review and optimize our entire tech stack, also assess all critical points of failure to add redundancies as needed.

  • Ensure all software releases meet applicable compliance and security requirements before reaching production, including SOC 2, GDPR, or other relevant frameworks

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Serve as the primary technical voice in the executive team, translating engineering realities into business terms and advocating for technical investments that reduce long-term risk

  • Partner closely with Product to maintain a healthy balance between new feature development, reliability work, and compliance obligations, ensuring nothing falls through the cracks

  • Work with Sales, Customer Success, and Legal to respond to enterprise security questionnaires, manage customer-facing compliance commitments, and support deal cycles that involve technical due diligence

  • Build strong relationships with Finance and People to manage the engineering budget, headcount forecasts, and vendor contracts with rigor and transparency

Team Growth and Hiring

  • Own the full engineering hiring lifecycle — from defining leveling frameworks and compensation bands to partnering with recruiting to attract and close senior technical talent

  • Build and develop high-performing engineering teams through structured mentorship, clear career ladders, and regular performance calibration

  • Scale the organization thoughtfully as the company grows, balancing headcount planning with team topology to minimize coordination overhead

  • Foster a culture of ownership and accountability where engineers take pride in what they ship and how it holds up in production

Strategic Planning

  • Partner with the CEO and product leadership to translate company goals into a multi-quarter engineering roadmap with clear dependencies and resource requirements

  • Define and own the technical strategy — including platform investments, architectural direction, and build vs. buy decisions — that positions the company to scale to the next stage of growth

  • Maintain a realistic view of technical debt and advocate for the right balance between feature delivery and foundational work

  • Drive annual and quarterly planning cycles, ensuring engineering capacity is allocated against the highest-leverage initiatives

Process and Culture

  • Design and continuously improve engineering processes — including code review standards, on-call rotations, incident response, and postmortem practices — that scale with the team

  • Champion a blameless engineering culture where incidents are learning opportunities and quality is treated as a shared responsibility, not a QA function

  • Implement lightweight compliance workflows (change management, audit trails, access controls) that satisfy regulatory requirements without slowing teams down

  • Create feedback loops — through retrospectives, developer satisfaction surveys, and 1:1s — that keep the team engaged and surface process friction early

Who You Are

We're looking for an experienced engineering executive who combines deep technical expertise with exceptional leadership skills. You're passionate about building world-class engineering organizations, developing high-performing teams, and delivering technology that drives meaningful business outcomes.

The Hard Skills
  • 15+ years in engineering leadership; have led 30–50+ person engineering organizations

  • Experience scaling SaaS platforms in ecommerce, martech, or developer tools

  • Proven success scaling high-growth SaaS platforms with a strong focus on reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.

  • Deep expertise in software architecture, distributed systems, APIs, cloud infrastructure, and platform engineering.

  • Experience building API-first products and developer platforms using modern REST and OpenAPI standards.

  • Strong understanding of modern software development practices, CI/CD, DevOps, observability, incident management, and engineering operations.

  • Experience optimizing application performance, platform latency, database performance, cloud infrastructure, and large-scale distributed systems.

  • Strong opinions on API design and developer experience — OpenAPI, REST conventions, agent-tool patterns

  • Modern stack fluency (PHP/Node/React/Shopify ecosystem helpful)

  • Comfortable operating in an exit-process posture with discretion

  • Vast experience with large data sets and must be a database expert

The Soft Skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to break down complex problems into easy-to-understand concepts.

  • Executive presence with the ability to inspire confidence, influence decision-making, and build trust across the organization.

  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business strategies and executive recommendations.

  • Collaborative leader who builds strong partnerships across Product, Customer Success, Sales, Operations, and Executive Leadership.

  • Someone who carries a positive attitude, loves to be a problem-solver, is naturally self-motivated, and passionate about e-commerce.
