About Ironsite

Ironsite is building the intelligence layer for the physical world. We design our own wearable hardware, deploy it alongside craft workers, and transform a shift's footage into a next-morning report. Our internal team and purpose-built models label the data overnight and deliver actionable insights to superintendents by 5 AM.

We are accelerating the speed, efficiency, and predictability of construction, especially for complex, mission-critical infrastructure projects, including data centers, LNG facilities, sports stadiums, hospitals, and other large-scale developments, by training AI models on egocentric construction footage and labor productivity data. We are built with a pro-worker philosophy at our core: we believe technology should empower the workforce, not replace it. We're working to give craft workers and project leaders better visibility into what's happening on-site, while creating a system where the reality of construction and the chaos of each day is finally available to the people running the project.

Ironsite is deployed across several of the largest active construction projects in the country. To date, we've captured more than 100,000 hours of construction footage across seven states, now process thousands of hours of site activity every day, and maintain a worker opt-out rate below two percent. This is enabled by a workforce-first architecture that anonymizes devices, captures no audio, and never releases raw video.

Ironsite is backed by leading investors (8VC, South Park Commons, Saga Ventures) and prominent operators across technology and construction, including Eric Schmidt, Jeff Dean, Jeff Rothschild, Mark Leslie, Scott Wu, Eric Glyman, Karim Atiyeh, Russell Kaplan, and others, alongside over a dozen construction industry operators who have joined us as partners in building this.

Longer term, we believe Ironsite is the foundation for what construction becomes in the next decade. We think the systems we're building are the operating system for how the physical world gets built, and will unlock a fundamentally different way of respect for our workforce. One where craft workers are more valued, more visible, and better paid for the skill they bring, and where the industry finally has the intelligence layer that makes autonomous construction possible. Both futures start with the same foundation.

The Role

We're hiring our first VP of Finance to build the finance function that will scale Ironsite from a Series A startup into a category-defining hardware and AI company.

You'll own everything from accounting operations to financial planning to cost management to internal controls. Your job is to bring financial rigor to a company that's growing quickly on multiple fronts (hardware at scale, deployments across the country, a growing labeling operation, and a fast-hiring team) and to make sure that as we grow, our unit economics get stronger, not weaker.

This is not a role for someone who wants to inherit a mature finance stack and execute against it. It's a role for someone who has built the finance function at a hardware company before, wants to do it again at a company that's already earning the right to scale, and understands that in a hardware business, cost discipline is the difference between good gross margins and great ones.

The right person for this role brings three things: deep operational finance experience at a hardware company with recurring revenue, real cost management chops (BOM analysis, gross margin optimization, unit economics across a growing fleet), and the maturity to build the accounting, planning, and controls foundation that lets Ironsite scale without financial surprises.

What You'll Own

Financial planning and analysis.
  • Design and run the budgeting and forecasting process for Ironsite, including annual budgets, quarterly reforecasts, and long-range financial models.
  • Build the P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow forecasts that give the founding team and the board real-time visibility into company performance.
  • Partner with operations, sales, hardware, and research leadership to translate operating plans into pro-forma income statements and balance sheets.
  • Own scenario planning, unit economics modeling, and the financial framework that guides how we invest across the business.

Cost management and gross margin.
  • Own the cost structure across the business, including hardware BOM, labeling operations, cloud infrastructure, and field deployment costs.
  • Drive gross margin optimization as we scale from thousands of deployed devices to hundreds of thousands. Every basis point matters.
  • Build the reporting and controls that give leadership real-time visibility into cost per device, cost per deployed hour, and cost per customer.
  • Partner with supply chain and manufacturing on hardware cost tracking, BOM analysis, and pricing strategy.

Accounting operations and reporting.
  • Own the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, revenue recognition, and cash management.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports for internal and external stakeholders including the board and investors.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, and drive continuous improvement in close speed, accuracy, and reporting quality.
  • Own our recurring revenue accounting and the operational metrics (ARR, gross margin, cash burn, LTV, CAC, retention) that our stage of company runs on.

Hardware product cost accounting.
  • Serve as a core team member in Ironsite's NPI (new product introduction) process, representing finance and cost accounting from concept through volume production.
  • Maintain and improve product cost projections in support of the budgeting process, pro-forma reporting, and pricing strategy.
  • Partner with supply chain, manufacturing engineering, and product leadership on cost tracking, BOM analysis, and gross margin optimization.

Internal controls, audit, and compliance.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls that scale with the company, and prepare Ironsite for eventual SOX readiness.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP accounting standards, and coordinate external audits as we grow into larger financing rounds.
  • Oversee federal, state, and local tax filings including sales tax, and ensure compliance with all financial regulations.

ERP, systems, and financial infrastructure.
  • Own the financial modules of the ERP system (NetSuite or similar), including general ledger, AP/AR, revenue recognition, and cost accounting.
  • Build the financial reporting infrastructure that gives leadership real-time visibility into performance across every part of the business.
  • Design and implement the systems, processes, and controls that let finance scale from a small team supporting 35 people to a mature function supporting hundreds.

Team and function building.
  • Hire, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting team as the company scales.
  • Manage relationships with external partners including our accounting firm, tax advisors, banks, and audit firm.
  • Build the finance operating cadence, reporting rhythm, and business review process that keeps the company financially disciplined as we grow.

What We're Looking For

Required
  • 10+ years of progressive finance experience, with at least 5 years in a senior finance role at a hardware company with recurring revenue.
  • Deep experience with hardware product finance, including cost accounting, BOM management, NPI financial support, and gross margin optimization.
  • Strong experience with recurring revenue business models, including revenue recognition (ASC 606), ARR reporting, and subscription unit economics.
  • Hands-on experience owning the full finance function at a Series A through Series C company, including budgeting, forecasting, close, audit, and board reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience deploying and administering modern ERP systems (NetSuite strongly preferred), including financial modules, cost accounting, and inventory integration.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP accounting standards, internal controls, and compliance requirements, with SOX experience or SOX-readiness experience.
  • Track record of building or scaling a finance function, including hiring and mentoring accounting and FP&A talent.
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort building financial models from first principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with employees, executives, and investors.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field. CPA, MBA, or equivalent finance experience.

Strongly preferred
  • Experience at a hardware company that scaled from early production through multiple product generations and multiple financing rounds.
  • Deep experience with gross margin optimization on hardware products at scale.
  • Experience with international operations, supply chain finance, or contract manufacturing partnerships.
  • Prior experience as a founding or early finance hire at a startup that scaled meaningfully. You've built the function before, not just executed within one.

Nice to have
  • Familiarity with construction, industrial, or field-services businesses.
  • Experience preparing a company for larger financing events (later-stage rounds, growth equity, or eventual IPO readiness).
  • Prior experience at a company that scaled to hundreds of thousands of hardware units in the field.

What Success Looks Like

  • First 90 days. You know Ironsite's financials, operating metrics, and business drivers cold. You've built relationships with the founding team, our external accounting partners, and our board finance contacts. You've identified the top three areas where the finance function needs to strengthen fastest, especially around cost visibility.
  • First 6 months. Our budgeting, forecasting, close, and reporting cadence is running reliably. The board and founding team trust the numbers. Cost visibility is real-time and actionable across hardware, deployments, labeling, and cloud infrastructure. Financial discipline is showing up in how the company makes decisions.
  • First 12 months. You're the internal authority on how Ironsite manages its finances. Our internal controls, ERP, and reporting infrastructure are ready to support significant scale. Our gross margins are trending in the right direction as we grow, and the finance function is running the business, not just reporting on it.

Location, Compensation, & Perks

  • San Francisco Bay Area (on-site)
  • Base salary: $200-250k per year, commensurate with experience
  • Meaningful founding-team equity. The person who builds the finance function and helps shape corp dev should own real upside.
  • Full benefits including health, dental, vision, and 401(k) with 6% match
  • Daily catered breakfast and lunch
  • Office in San Francisco, next to Oracle Park and the Caltrain

Final compensation is determined by experience, location, and level.

Why This Role

Every category-defining hardware company had a finance leader who was the reason the business could scale without falling apart. Not because they built the fanciest model, but because they brought financial discipline to a company that needed it, drove cost visibility across a complex operation, and made the calls that kept the company on the right side of every capital and cost decision.

Ironsite is at that moment. We have the product, the customers, the funding, and the team. What we need is the finance leader who is going to build the financial foundation that supports Ironsite becoming a hardware and AI company with material scale, and who has the operational rigor to make sure our unit economics get stronger as we grow, not weaker.

If you've built finance functions at hardware companies that scaled, and you want to do it again at a company that's earning the right to scale, we want to talk.
Compensation
The base pay range for this role is $200,000 – $250,000 per year.
