Build and deploy production AI agents for internal teams, including custom tools, function calling, execution harnesses, cloud services, and integrations. Partner with non-technical teams to identify automation opportunities, engineer LLM context, maintain tool libraries, and operate agents with monitoring, error handling, cost controls, prompt optimization, caching, and model selection.

Samba connects the advertising industry. Today, a trillion dollars of media flows through platforms that don’t talk to each other, and each one measures its own results. We built the independent alternative: consented first-party data and AI that give the world’s biggest advertisers, publishers, and platforms one clear view across all of it.

The next era of advertising will run on AI agents, and those agents will need data they can trust. We’re building that foundation, and the agents that act on it. Join us and help build what the industry runs on.

About the Role
You build AI agents that internal teams across Samba actually use, on the AI Engineering team. That means sitting with a non-technical team, finding where their work is slow, and shipping an agent with the tools and harness it needs to help, on the desktop or in the cloud. You own it from idea to measurable impact.

What You'll Do
  • Ship Agents: Build and deploy AI agents using modern agent SDKs such as Claude or OpenAI, with custom tools and function calling.
  • Build the Harness: Design tool harnesses and execution environments for agents, both on the desktop through local CLI and IDE integrations, and in the cloud as containerized, API-driven services.
  • Embed With Teams: Partner with internal teams to understand their workflows, identify automation opportunities, and build agents tailored to their use cases.
  • Reason About Models: Think critically about LLM capabilities and limitations, understanding the differences between models, when to use which, and how to get the best results from each.
  • Engineer the Context: Develop context engineering strategies that give LLMs the right information at the right time, within token limits.
  • Maintain Tool Libraries: Build and maintain custom tool libraries that agents use to interact with internal systems, APIs, and data sources.
  • Run Agents in Production: Deploy and manage agents in cloud environments with monitoring, error handling, and cost controls, optimizing spend and performance through prompt engineering, caching, and model selection.

What You Bring
  • You have built AI agents and shipped them to production, not just prototypes, including the tools, harnesses, and scaffolding they run on, and deployed them in cloud environments.
  • You use Claude Code and Cursor daily and are deeply comfortable with AI-assisted development, including headless mode, multi-file editing, and MCP server integration.
  • You think critically about LLMs and understand how they work under the hood, reasoning about the differences between Claude, GPT, Gemini, and open-source models to pick the right one.
  • You have strong product sense, focus on what users actually need, ship pragmatic 80% solutions and iterate, and take ownership from idea to measurable impact.
  • You can sit with a non-technical team, translate their pain points into an agent that helps, explain complex AI systems to anyone in the company, and stay current as the landscape shifts.
  • You are comfortable working across cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure) and containerized environments.
  • A plus: advanced agent patterns or multi-agent systems, building and configuring Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, open-source AI/ML contributions, LLM observability tools, and media, adtech, or streaming data knowledge.

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
