We are seeking an experienced Application Engineer - DevOps & Engineering Tools to join our agile team! In this role you will deploy, administer, and support new and existing enterprise-wide COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) software engineering and DevSecOps applications, leveraging containerized solutions (where possible) to optimize deployments and administration across our classified and unclassified environments.  You will join a diverse, regionally distributed team supporting core Software Configuration Management (SWCM) and build capabilities. Additionally, you will drive software modernization and cloud adoption by partnering with engineering teams to migrate legacy technologies to container-based, cloud-hosted, Git-based solutions.

The position is remote but may require occasional travel to on-site locations to support programs in the following cities/regions: El Segundo CA, McKinney, TX, Richardson, TX, Tucson AZ, or Tewksbury, MA, Andover, MA, Marlborough, MA.

What You Will Do

  • Deploy, sustain, and support enterprise shared software applications across on‑premise and cloud environments using DevSecOps principles
  • Develop and maintain software deployment automation, container orchestration scripts, and infrastructure‑as‑code templates
  • Configure, harden, and maintain the cybersecurity and compliance posture of all hosted solutions
  • Assist engineering teams with supporting, optimizing, and integrating software build/test pipelines
  • Resolve application service incidents and collaborate with Level‑1 helpdesk teams to create internal knowledge base articles
  • Partner with engineering stakeholders to plan and execute migrations from legacy systems to modern platforms
  • Develop enterprise-grade solution architectures and present performance metrics and demonstrations to leadership
  • Collaborate with programs and stakeholder groups to align and support application deployments
  • Implement and maintain service monitoring scripts and tools to streamline operations and maximize uptime

Qualifications You Must Have  

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics, (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree and 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Experience deploying and supporting server-based hosted COTS applications and associated databases in an enterprise environment.  Applications such as GITLAB, Jira, Azure Devops Server, Jenkins, etc.
  • Linux system administration experience.
  • Hands-on experience using Docker and/or Podman.
  • Experience with troubleshooting commercial server-based application installs, associated databases, networking issues, and Web/HTTP concepts (SSL, certificates, proxy, REST) to resolve application configuration issues.
     

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Strong communication, organizational, and people skills with the ability to multi-task, support multiple customers, and to work within specific schedule and cost constraints.
  • Experience deploying or administering Jira, GitLab, and/or Azure DevOps Server.
  • Ability to troubleshoot CI/CD pipelines/code in Jenkins, Azure, or GitLab.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, Rancher, Tanzu, or similar technologies.
  • Experience using tools like Ansible, Chef, or Terraform.
  • Ability to develop automation scripts using Bash, Python, and/or PERL.
  • Experience deploying and managing applications in cloud tenants (AWS, Azure).
  • Knowledge of vulnerability remediation, disaster recovery, data spill remediation, FIPS compliance, SSL/TLS, and SELinux.
  • Windows system administration experience and experience administering Java-based applications.
  • Strong understanding and implementation experience with SCRUM, Lean, Agile, or Scaled Agile (SAFe) frameworks

Remote: This position currently is designated as remote. Employees who are working in remote roles will work primarily offsite (from home) but may be expected to travel to the site location as needed. The successful candidate for this role will be required to reside and work from one of the 50 U.S. states (excluding U.S. territories).

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.

Requires advanced to expert knowledge of work area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.

May have broad knowledge of project management. Requires substantial knowledge of RTX projects, programs or systems in order to provide enhancements within job area.

Typically requires: A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
