The Associate Director, Optum Rx Communications, provides strategic communications support for Optum Rx's pharmacy benefit management business. Reporting to the VP, PBM Communications, this role helps develop and execute integrated communications strategies that support business priorities, strengthen reputation and engage key stakeholders. The position partners closely with the business and cross-functional teams to drive proactive campaigns that advance Optum Rx's goals.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develop a solid understanding of the Optum Rx PBM business, industry landscape and key stakeholders to provide strategic communications counsel and support
  • Support the development and execution of communications strategies aligned to business priorities and designed to reach key external and internal audiences
  • Identify and help advance proactive storytelling opportunities that reinforce Optum Rx's leadership in driving transformation, access affordability and experience
  • Partner closely with internal stakeholders across multiple functions to ensure coordinated communications planning and execution
  • Collaborate with communications colleagues across Optum, UnitedHealthcare and UnitedHealth Group to align messaging and identify amplification opportunities
  • Support management of reputational, business and policy-related issues through thoughtful communications planning and response development
  • Monitor media, industry and stakeholder trends and provide insights to inform communications strategies
  • Measure and evaluate communications outcomes using data and insights to optimize impact and effectiveness

Required Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of communications, public affairs or marketing communications experience, including experience supporting complex business initiatives
  • 5+ years of experience in external communications, media relations, corporate communications or public affairs
  • Proven knowledge of the health care industry, including experience supporting highly regulated businesses or environments
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders across multiple functions and levels
  • Proven solid written and verbal communications skills, with experience developing executive-ready communications materials
  • Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with solid project management skills
  • Ability to analyze complex issues, synthesize information and develop clear, audience-focused messaging

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or related field
  • Experience supporting pharmacy benefit management, health services, health care, pharmaceutical or related businesses
  • Experience with issues management, reputation management or media relations

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $112,700 - $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
