Position Summary: 

Pillsbury’s prominent State and Local Tax (SALT) group is seeking to hire a mid-level associate to join its complex California property tax practice based out of the Silicon Valley office.  This busy and fast-paced practice involves equal parts property tax and transfer tax planning for acquisitions and dispositions, exemptions and exclusions, as well as controversy at all levels from local assessment appeal boards through all appellate levels across a broad array of real and personal property types (e.g., commercial, industrial, large-scale residential) and reaching across multiple industries (high-tech, renewable energy, real estate investment, life sciences, and healthcare to name just a few).  Property tax, valuation, real estate, SALT and/or litigation experience is strongly preferred.  Responsibilities, as appropriate, will range from legal and factual research and analysis; assistance with case management, development, valuation, and strategy; legal writing for varied audiences from assessor personnel and clerks to judges and clients; oral advocacy, again, in varied contexts from auditors and assessor personnel to formal legal settings; and frequent client interactions.  

Required Minimum Qualifications: 
Candidate is required to have a bachelor’s degree and a Juris Doctorate degree (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school and must be barred in at least one U.S. jurisdiction and willing to sit for the California State Ba.  Previous or current employment with an Am Law 100 or top accounting firm is preferred.

Desired Qualifications: 
The successful candidate must be hardworking and dedicated to learning and growing in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, analytical, and time management skills, superior judgment, proficiency in Excel, and ease in working with numbers are musts.

Experience working in an Am Law 100 or top accounting firm is preferred. Property tax, valuation, real estate, SALT and/or litigation experience is also strongly preferred.

Qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records will be considered for the position in accordance with the California Fair Chance Act. California Pay range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on skillset and experience is $260,000 – $435,000.
