About the Team

OpenAI’s mission is to ensure that general-purpose artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity.

The Business Marketing team contributes to our broader mission of ensuring responsible and widespread adoption of artificial intelligence by developing and executing strategies that drive awareness, engagement, and usage for OpenAI’s products and platform amongst core business audiences.

The Strategy & Operations function supports Business Marketing with operating models and cadences; strategic planning; portfolio, resource, and investment management; measurement and organizational learning that empower our teams to move at pace with clarity and confidence.

This is a hybrid role, based in San Francisco Bay Area (preferred) or New York City three days a week.

About the Role

Business Marketing moves quickly, and this role sits close to the work. We’re looking for an analytical, highly collaborative Business Operations Manager who can turn a complex marketing budget into better day-to-day decisions. You will partner with marketing leaders, Strategic Finance, Procurement, Data Science, agencies, and regional teams to plan and pace spend, manage commitments, answer urgent questions, and translate investment data into clear actions. This role is not for someone who prefers back-office operations. You will be embedded in the business, understand what teams are trying to achieve, and help them move faster with confidence.

You will run the operating rhythm for budget administration across a global, highly matrixed team: maintaining a trusted view of allocations, POs, contracts, actuals, forecasts, and risks; reconciling inputs across different marketing functions, regions, and shared services; and surfacing tradeoffs for leadership and Strategic Finance. You will also partner with Data Science to better connect spend to outcomes, lead useful ad hoc analysis, and build AI-enabled tools and workflows that take the friction out of budget management and make the information more timely, intuitive, and genuinely useful.

In this role, you will:

  • Own day-to-day budget administration across allocations, forecasts, commitments, purchase requests, purchase orders, invoices, accruals, actuals, and reconciliation.

  • Partner with Business Marketing leadership and Strategic Finance to operationalize allocation decisions, maintain forecasts, prepare scenarios, and surface tradeoffs.

  • Work side-by-side with marketing leaders across campaigns, events, agencies, contractors, regions, and shared services to plan, pace, track, and manage spend.

  • Manage the purchasing and contract lifecycle with Procurement, Finance, Legal, agencies, contractors, and vendors, including POs, SOWs, renewals, rate cards, and commitments.

  • Maintain a trusted global view of spend; reconcile conflicting inputs, identify variances, duplicate costs, timing differences, and at-risk spend, and escalate material issues early.

  • Build models, dashboards, and ad hoc analyses that connect investments to business goals and help leaders decide what to fund, reduce, defer, challenge, or escalate.

  • Partner with Data Science and Analytics to improve how Business Marketing understands ROI, effectiveness, and the relationship between spend and outcomes.

You might thrive in this role, if you:

  • Bring 4+ years of experience in business operations, strategic finance, FP&A, marketing operations, business analytics, consulting, or a related quantitative role in a fast-moving, matrixed organization; B2B business understanding preferred.

  • Strong hands-on experience with significant, at scale budgets, forecasts, purchase orders, commitments, accruals, invoices, and reconciliation.

  • Excellent analytical skills and genuine curiosity: you enjoy digging into messy data, answering ad hoc questions, and finding the business story behind the numbers.

  • Practical understanding of purchasing, contracts, agencies, vendors, and the operational details that keep spend moving responsibly.

  • Ability to communicate clearly, build trust with marketers and finance partners, and create alignment across different marketing functions, regions, and shared services without formal authority.

  • An AI-native builder mindset: you see a repetitive spreadsheet, approval, reconciliation, or reporting task and start thinking about how to make it simpler, faster, and more useful.
