About the Role

Uber operates at the intersection of technology, mobility, commerce, and an increasingly complex global regulatory environment. As our business evolves, so do the legal, regulatory, and public policy risks that shape how we operate, innovate, and grow.

We are seeking a strategic and forward-thinking Director of Internal Audit to lead our Regulatory, Legal, and Public Policy Risk portfolio. This leader will anticipate emerging external risks, translate them into a forward-looking audit strategy, and deliver independent assurance and actionable insights that strengthen Uber's governance and risk management.

This highly visible role requires strong business judgment, executive presence, and the ability to connect complex regulatory developments with Uber's business strategy and operations. You will partner with senior leaders across Legal, Public Policy, Compliance and other teams as applicable while leading a high-performing audit team.

What you’ll do

Drive Regulatory Risk Strategy and Foresight
  • Develop and lead the strategy, risk assessment, priorities, and performance of the regulatory, legal, and public policy audit portfolio, aligning coverage with Uber's evolving business priorities and global operating environment.
  • Anticipate how emerging regulations, litigation trends, government actions, and policy developments may affect Uber's strategy, business model, products, and operations.
  • Translate external developments into actionable insights, audit priorities, and advisory opportunities, identifying thematic risks and assessing Uber's preparedness for evolving regulatory requirements.

Lead High-Impact Audit and Advisory Engagements

  • Oversee a portfolio of complex assurance and advisory engagements across diverse set of areas such as platform and gig labor regulations, AI governance and algorithmic transparency, consumer protection, marketplace practices, privacy, emerging technology regulation, and more.
  • Translate audit strategy into clear priorities, execution plans, and measurable outcomes, holding teams accountable for timely, high-quality delivery and effective remediation oversight.
  • Elevate insights beyond individual findings by directing teams to identify root causes, cross-functional dependencies, and opportunities for sustainable improvements.

Influence Senior Leadership and Strengthen Risk Management

  • Build trusted relationships with senior leaders across Legal, Public Policy, Compliance, and business functions.
  • Navigate complex and sensitive discussions, constructively challenge management, and influence decisions that strengthen regulatory preparedness and risk management.
  • Distill complex regulatory, technical, and operational issues into clear, actionable insights, tailoring communication to executive, business, and technical audiences.
  • Engage proactively with stakeholders to identify opportunities to strengthen risk management before emerging issues become significant business challenges.

Build a High-Performing Team and Advance Internal Audit

  • Lead, coach, and develop audit professionals, fostering accountability, collaboration, sound judgment, and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear priorities, manage resources, and develop future leaders while ensuring consistent delivery of audit commitments.
  • Champion practical applications of data analytics, automation, and AI to improve risk intelligence, audit effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Contribute to the broader Internal Audit leadership agenda, driving cross-functional collaboration, scalable innovation, and improvements that strengthen the effectiveness of the overall function.

Basic Qualifications

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in internal audit, regulatory risk, compliance assurance, enterprise risk management, or related disciplines
  • 8+ years of people leadership experience, with demonstrated success developing high-performing teams and delivering results through others

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of risk management, governance, internal controls, and risk-based assurance methodologies, including experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives
  • Proven ability to independently develop and execute risk-based strategies, assess complex regulatory and operational risks, and translate insights into meaningful business improvements
  • Strong executive presence and influence: Demonstrated ability to engage confidently and credibly with senior executives, navigate difficult conversations, constructively challenge decisions, and build alignment across competing perspectives
  • Exceptional communication skills: Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, compelling messages and adapt communication style, tone, and level of detail to different audiences, including technical experts, business leaders, and executive governance forums
  • Strong interpersonal skills, business judgment, and strategic agility, with the ability to build trust, collaborate across functions, and make timely decisions in ambiguous, rapidly changing environments
  • Experience in a global technology company, digital marketplace, or similarly complex and highly regulated industry
  • Knowledge of regulatory and policy issues affecting digital platforms, including gig work, AI governance, consumer protection, privacy, and transportation regulation
  • Experience partnering with Legal, Public Policy, Compliance, Product, Engineering, or other senior cross-functional stakeholders
  • Experience leveraging data analytics, automation, or AI to strengthen risk assessment and assurance
  • Relevant professional certifications or advanced qualifications such as CIA, CPA, CISA, CCEP, JD, or equivalent credentials
