We’re a hyper-growth and profitable company, quickly expanding our expert network, launching new offices, and new products. We are headquartered in San Francisco, with offices in Brooklyn and Bangalore. Our customers include the fastest-growing digital health companies, technology companies, institutional investment firms, consulting firms and AI Labs. We are backed by top marketplace investors and operators of companies like DoorDash, Airbnb, Affirm.

What we believe

Human knowledge is the world’s most valuable asset. And yet, despite being more interconnected than ever, most knowledge still remains stuck in our heads, inaccessible and underutilized. Our vision is to make human knowledge easily accessible and infinitely scalable by building tools for the new age knowledge economy.

About the role

We're hiring our first Director of People Operations to build the people function at Office Hours. You'll own the programs and infrastructure that shape the employee experience here: performance, employee relations, benefits, policy, and the systems underneath all of it. You'll also lead our talent and recruiting team, so you'll shape how people find their way to Office Hours as well as what happens once they arrive.

This is a role for someone who likes building and then running what they build. You'll design the performance cycle and then execute it. You'll write the policy the company needs and then roll it out. You carry enough experience to make judgment calls on sensitive people matters and design programs from scratch, and you don't shy away from the administrative side of the work, like configuring our HR system and owning benefits administration.

What you’ll do
  • Performance and development. Design and run our performance review and promotion cycles, including calibration, manager enablement, and the systems and communications that make them work. Partner with leaders on development planning and performance improvement.

  • Employee relations. Serve as a trusted advisor to employees and managers across the full range of workplace matters. Lead investigations where they're warranted, coach managers through difficult conversations, and know when to bring in counsel.

  • Policy development. Build and maintain our employee handbook and people policies. Own the review, approval, and rollout process, and keep everything current and accessible.

  • Benefits and total rewards administration. Manage our benefits programs end to end, from evaluation and renewals through open enrollment, new hire enrollment, and life event changes. Serve as the point of contact for employee questions and report on utilization and spend.

  • People systems and data. Own our HRIS as system administrator, including configuration, integrations, and data integrity. Build the reporting that gives leaders visibility into headcount, attrition, and engagement.

  • Onboarding and offboarding. Design the programs that set new hires up to succeed and bring employment relationships to a clean close, including transition planning, exit interviews, and the documentation that goes with each. Our talent and recruiting team runs day-to-day onboarding execution.

  • Culture and engagement. Bring our values to life through recognition programs, rituals, and internal communications. Run engagement and pulse surveys, share what you learn with leadership, and follow through on it.

  • Team Management. Lead and develop our Talent & Recruiting team. Hire and manage an office manager & employee experience role to report into you.

What you bring
  • 10+ years of progressive experience across people operations and HR business partnering, including as a leader of a people function

  • Time at a company under 150 people, where you owned a broad scope and did the work directly rather than managing it through others

  • You've designed and run performance cycles end to end, not just administered someone else's

  • Direct experience advising on employee relations matters with sound instincts about escalation

  • Hands-on HRIS ownership as the system administrator, including configuration and cleanup

  • Experience leading teams, specifically talent & recruiting, with a clear point of view on how you develop people

  • Excellent written communication. A lot of this role is policy, program design, and internal comms that people actually engage with

Bonus Experience
  • You've built a people function from the ground up

  • Familiarity with Rippling

Benefits + Perks
  • Competitive salary and equity

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage

  • 401(k)

  • Monthly wellness and fitness stipend

  • Paid time off policy, along with company holidays

  • Annual company off-sites (Tahoe, Mendocino, Mexico City, San Diego, Park City)

  • Parent-friendly policies, remote flexibility, and paid family leave

Pay Transparency Notice

Full-time offers include base salary, equity, and benefits.

Pay range: $150-$170k base, based on seniority and relevant experience, plus a discretionary performance bonus.

This is a hybrid role, in our San Francisco or NYC office 2-3 times per week.

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that some candidates, especially underrepresented groups such as women and people of color, are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At Office Hours we believe in building a diverse and inclusive workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but don’t meet every qualification in the job description, we still encourage you to apply. You could still be the right candidate for this or other roles at Office Hours!
