The role requires strong capability in process mapping, value stream mapping, root cause identification, statistical analysis, and training delivery to build a culture of continuous improvement within Finance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end Lean Six Sigma and process excellence projects across Finance using DMAIC and other structured improvement methodologies.
  • Facilitate process mapping and value stream mapping sessions for finance processes to identify bottlenecks, manual work, rework, control gaps, handoff issues, duplicate activities, and non-value-added steps.
  • Analyze finance process performance data to identify trends, variation, defects, reconciliation issues, cycle-time delays, reporting inaccuracies, and improvement opportunities.
  • Conduct root cause analysis using tools such as Fishbone Diagram, 5 Whys, Pareto Analysis, FMEA, hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and variance analysis.
  • Apply statistical tools and techniques, including control charts, capability analysis, correlation, regression, ANOVA, design of experiments, measurement system analysis, and statistical process control, to solve finance process and data-quality problems.
  • Partner with Finance leaders, controllership, operations, IT, data teams, and business stakeholders to define project charters, scope, goals, benefits, timelines, risks, and success measures.
  • Develop and implement sustainable finance process improvements that improve accuracy, reduce cycle time, strengthen controls, eliminate manual effort, reduce cost, and deliver measurable business value.
  • Create control plans, dashboards, standard operating procedures, process documentation, governance routines, and performance metrics to sustain improvements.
  • Coach / Mentor Green Belts, Yellow Belts, finance project teams, and business stakeholders on Lean Six Sigma tools, data-driven problem solving, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Design and conduct finance-focused training programs, workshops, and awareness sessions to build process excellence capability across Finance.

Required Skills and Capabilities

  • Strong expertise in Lean Six Sigma principles, DMAIC methodology, and continuous improvement frameworks, preferably in Finance or shared services environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to create current-state and future-state process maps and value stream maps for finance processes.
  • Excellent analytical mindset with the ability to identify root causes behind process delays, data-quality issues, control gaps, and reporting inaccuracies.
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical tools and problem-solving techniques used in process improvement and financial data analysis.
  • Ability to interpret finance data, validate assumptions, test hypotheses, analyze variances, and convert insights into practical improvement actions.
  • Strong understanding of finance operations, controls, reconciliations, reporting cycles, forecasting processes, and key performance metrics.
  • Strong facilitation, stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to work across Finance, IT, operations, and business teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple improvement projects with clear milestones, benefits tracking, risk management, and governance.
  • Strong training and coaching capability, with experience simplifying Lean Six Sigma and statistical concepts for finance audiences.
  • High attention to detail, structured thinking, data discipline, and a strong bias for measurable outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification is required; Master Black Belt certification is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Operations, Engineering, Statistics, Data Analytics, or a related field; advanced degree or professional finance qualification is preferred.
  • Proven experience leading process improvement, operational excellence, finance transformation, shared services, controllership, FP&A, reporting, or data-quality improvement projects.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and senior Finance stakeholders in a matrixed organization.
  • Hands-on experience with statistical analysis tools, ERP systems, finance reporting platforms, business intelligence tools, or data visualization platforms is preferred.

Success Measures

  • Delivery of measurable finance process improvement benefits, including cost reduction, productivity gains, cycle-time reduction, improved forecast or reporting accuracy, stronger controls, or reduced manual effort.
  • Successful completion of prioritized Finance Lean Six Sigma projects within agreed scope, timeline, and benefit targets.
  • Improved finance process visibility through documented process maps, value stream maps, control plans, dashboards, and performance metrics.
  • Reduction in defects, rework, reconciliation breaks, reporting errors, process variation, or manual interventions across targeted finance processes.
  • Increased Finance capability through effective training, coaching, and mentoring of improvement practitioners and process owners.
