About the Team

Our team helps OpenAI advance data center development by connecting communications, permitting and community engagement. We work across the teams building these projects to bring community expertise and clear communication to practical development needs.

About the Role

We’re looking for a versatile communications and community engagement professional who can help move data center projects forward. You’ll combine community engagement with strong communication skills and experience in permitting and public meetings. This role calls for someone who can influence across organizational boundaries, build understanding among stakeholders and step into the work where they can be most useful. This position has a strong external focus, crafting and sharing our data center narrative with a strong impact on policy-making through advocacy and press stakeholder management. This position will also have a major impact on the way OpenAI is perceived by other players in the industry and by the wider public.

In this role, you will:

  • Partner with permitting and community-engagement teams to understand local concerns and support project progress.

  • Support press and storytelling around community engagement projects in our local data center communities in partnership with our Community Engagement Leads.

  • Help craft and scale our communication narrative around our operating principals as we scale our infrastructure footprint.

  • Develop clear narratives and communications that explain projects, energy needs and policy positions to relevant stakeholders.

  • Connect policy, communications and project teams so messages and actions reflect development needs.

  • Build alignment across teams, influence decisions and help resolve issues that span policy, communications and development.

  • Think creatively about communications and the channels used, working with the Public Affairs teams to deliver integrated execution of initiatives.

  • Help shape energy policy approaches that support data center development and translate policy considerations into practical recommendations.

You might thrive in this role if you have:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to make complex issues clear to different audiences.

  • Practical experience crafting a positive narrative for the data center industry, and a track record of influencing across teams and taking ownership in ambiguous situations.

  • Experience in and supporting public meetings, events, and announcements.

  • Experience managing social media messaging and campaigns in support of project initiatives

  • Media training and have experience working with senior leadership to prep for media

  • Experience in energy policy and an ability to connect policy decisions to infrastructure development.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience running a high stakes media campaign

  • Experience supporting data center development or comparable energy and infrastructure projects.

  • Experience with policy communication (on energy for example)
