At AbsenceSoft, we’re transforming the employee experience. Our secure, intuitive technology helps employers bring humanity, certainty, and efficiency to some of the most complex moments in the workplace. Built by HR professionals for HR professionals, we’re proud of where we’ve been and even more excited about where we’re going.

As our Instructional Designer, you'll build the training content that powers AbsenceSoft University — the courses, learning paths, and assessments customers and partners rely on to master our platform. You'll develop deep product expertise and partner closely with our compliance team to keep content accurate as leave and accommodations laws evolve. Working independently within established instructional design practices, you'll translate complex product changes and regulatory updates into clear, engaging content customers can actually use. As a trusted partner to Product, Compliance, and Customer Success, you'll directly support faster customer onboarding, stronger product adoption, and fewer support escalations. This role reports to the Director, Customer Education.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Design and build courses, learning paths, and assessments — including quizzes and certification exam content — that reflect our product and how customers actually use it, applying sound instructional design practices and SCORM/xAPI standards.
  • Build deep expertise in the AbsenceSoft platform, serving as the team's go-to resource on what's changing and why it matters for training.
  • Partner with the product team to gain early visibility into upcoming releases, updating training content before or as those releases launch.
  • Collaborate with the compliance team to translate regulatory updates into accurate content, with final review from the Director, and maintain clear records of what's changed and why.
  • Use course data to identify what's working and where content needs a refresh.
  • Uphold organizational security and compliance controls within the scope of this role.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • 3+ years of experience in instructional design or curriculum development, ideally within a B2B SaaS environment.
  • A self-directed, naturally curious learner who builds deep product expertise independently and knows when to move forward solo versus loop in a manager.
  • Working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, or state leave laws, with the ability to collaborate with a compliance team and synthesize regulatory updates into clear, usable content.
  • Strong writing skills, translating technical or dense material into clear, accessible content.
  • Comfortable building and publishing courses in a modern LMS such as Skilljar, Docebo, or Absorb, and authoring tools like Articulate 360, Camtasia, or Captivate.
  • Background in leave and accommodations management or HR technology, a CLMS certification, or experience building product training alongside a product team is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with SCORM/xAPI standards, basic video production, or Salesforce/CRM-driven learner reporting is also valuable.
