The Litigation Knowledge & Innovation Lawyer is a senior litigator embedded with Pillsbury’s litigation Global Business Unit as part of the AI & Knowledge Department, reporting to the Director of Knowledge & Innovation for Litigation, to make the practice know-how usable for lawyers and AI. This role works closely with Pillsbury’s litigators, turning final documents into structured matter profiles that identify opportunities to improve litigation workflows, drive adoption of AI-enabled workflows, and develop and curate practical know-how to support these workflows and our lawyers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Knowledge Management
  • Curate, develop, and maintain knowledge management assets, including precedent libraries, playbooks, expertise resources, matter insights, and practice-specific know-how and skills.
  • Capture lessons from matter teams and develop resources that reflect current practice.
  • Oversee the capture, organization, and utilization of matter profile information and practice data to support meaningful reporting, dashboards, and operational insights for practice leadership.
  • Strive for continuous improvement by monitoring usage of the practice’s know-how resources and technology, soliciting regular feedback from attorneys, continuously assessing gaps in the practice’s know-how and knowledge-sharing processes, and developing and implementing plans to address those gaps.

Process Design
  • Work with lawyers and Knowledge Analysts to map workflows, identify recurring challenges and pain points, and identify opportunities to improve the workflows with better processes, data, and AI.
  • Partner with practice leaders and matter teams to prioritize changes to workflows and work with the Data Science & AI Engineering team to develop practical approaches to test and roll out.
  • Evaluate workflow improvements against before-and-after baselines, using attorney feedback, testing, and appropriate measures of quality and efficiency; refine promising approaches and help integrate them into practice.
  • Help design, build, test, and evaluate litigation use cases and workflows that leverage the practice’s know-how and AI technologies.
  • Translate practice needs into clear requirements for technical teams; gather lawyer feedback and help refine and adopt effective solutions.

Support Adoption & Training
  • Support the adoption of AI tools, AI-enabled workflows, knowledge-sharing, and workflow improvement within Litigation by supplying content, examples, and credibility to change programs run with AI Transformation, and by working with the practice’s AI champions.
  • Partner with AI Applications, Talent Development, and Training teams to develop and deliver practical guidance and training on AI tools, workflows, knowledge resources, and appropriate use of approved tools.
  • Serve as a subject matter resource on the use of AI in Litigation practice, providing guidance and support on the effective, ethical, and secure use of AI tools within the practice.
  • Monitor emerging trends, technologies, and best practices within the litigation, KM, legal AI, and professional services markets to support innovation, competitive positioning, and continuous improvement initiatives for the practice.

Build Trust into Delivery
  • Build gold-standard test sets for core litigation tasks with Data Science & AI Engineering and sign off on AI output quality at designated approval gates.
  • Build and maintain the practice’s guidance on AI in court filings: citation verification, judges’ standing orders and local rules on AI use, and client restrictions in outside counsel guidelines.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and active admission to at least one U.S. state bar in good standing.
  • 8+ years of hands-on litigation experience at a large law firm or comparable practice, at partner, counsel, or senior-associate level.
  • Strong understanding of litigation workflows including early case assessment, research, and drafting.
  • Strong judgment about legal authority, facts, procedural posture, court practice, privilege, and the practical limits of reusing another matter’s work.
  • Ability to earn the trust of both partners and associates, distill complex litigation work into concise guidance, and lead cross-functional work to completion.
  • Hands-on use of generative AI in litigation work and a clear view of its limits; able to show workflows or evaluations you have built.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior litigation KM, professional support, attorney development, legal innovation or practice operations work.
  • Experience running a contained pilot or implementation of Litigation technology or AI tools.
  • Experience supporting more than one litigation specialty and designing resources that serve different offices or courts.

The expected salary range for this position is $275,000 - $325,000.  Final compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, skill set, and geographic location.
